| Guns N' Roses – Riad n' the Bedouins Lyrics

"Riad" could be a reference to The Story of Bayad and Riyad, an Arabic love story. It's also the term for a traditional Moroccan house or palace with an interior garden (from Wiki).
The Bedouin are a group of Arab nomads who were partly the inspiration for the Fremen in Frank Herbert's novel Dune. |

So this is the song that used to be called Baby Rag Dog Book? It's very good.
I think it's about an addict hitting rock bottom. |

This song will probably be on the next album after 4:13 Dream. Supposedly it will be darker than Dream. |

You have to admit there are a few lines that sound kinda bleak.
"For setting fire to bridges / Boats"
"Turn everything red / burn down the house"
"your world going up in the fire"
I think this could be a sad song disguised as a happy one, or just a happy song with some strange metaphors. |

Actually it's Hopelandic, not Hopelandish. And that line you mentioned sounds to me like "You sat alone" or "You sat along the fire." It's probably intentional because I heard they had considered doing the album in English at one point. |

I think the reason this is track 23 is because 23 was the age at which the Sinstar was supposed to come out. Could be wrong though because I don't have the comics. |

It's about death in the absence of an afterlife. There is no heaven or hell, he is just lying in his grave surrounded by the dead (grey cats) and gazing up at their gravestones (stones, columns). |

Sounds like the war in Iraq interpreted as a Christian crusade. "The power of the holy ghost comes to town."
Lobsterback was what the American colonists called British soldiers because they wore bright red coats. |

| Night Ranger – Sister Christian Lyrics

It's about the lead singer giving advice to his little sister. Motoring is what you might call cruising around with your friends or something. I heard the song was originally called "Sister Christy" but when he sang it his words ran together so they just changed it to Christian. |

This is a great song, but I'm kinda more partial to James Iha's cover even though he can't sing. It just seems more appropriate as a slower, sadder song. |

Fun Fact: If you play this song and "Everything in Its Right Place" from Kid A at the same time, they synchronize. Thom's voice on "Everything" acts as the lead vocals, while on "Packt" he sings back-up. It's very cool. |

Here's how the second verse goes:
"She builds a strong alibi
From the future that's here
She needs to know I'm alive
But I'm flesh and I tear
Maybe she's wrong
But I won't mind my own
What do I know?
And their silicone
With a touch of her soul
What do I know?
She's beautiful and wonderful
I can't compare
It's not that fair" |

I agree, this is probably the best song on the album. My favorite part is when the music gets really quiet and the chorus starts. |

Billly's sort of a New-Age-type believer in God, not really a Christian though. This song kicks so much ass. |

I think it could be about how Les Claypool felt when he was younger. He's known to love fishing, after all. This is one of my favorite Primus songs. |

| The Smashing Pumpkins – Medellia of the Grey Skies Lyrics

Excellent song. I read that it was written as a companion piece to Porcelina of the Vast Oceans (hence the title similarity) but didn't make the album cut, even though Billy Corgan said it "turned out much more beautiful than I ever dreamed possible." |

I agree with tottaly Blue on this one. The 12-step program is one of the main metaphors in the album. Also if you listen carefully to the background noise, you can hear someone say "Maynard" and someone else say "Jordy," both members of the band. So they probably just recorded random voice bits during the album sessions and put them in the song. |

| Zwan – Ride A Black Swan Lyrics

I think it's about the passing of time and how it has affected Billy Corgan. He's stated in interviews that time seems to go too fast for him; that could explain the chorus. The rest of the lyrics, I think, just describe what he wants from the world and other people as time goes on. |

| The Smashing Pumpkins – Tonight, Tonight Lyrics

|
The line "In your city by the lake" is in reference to Chicago, where the band is from. I think the song is a declaration by Billy Corgan that the Pumpkins are not just another rock band, that they're different and will "make things right." The music supports the idea because it sounds unlike anything else in mainstream rock. |

| The Smashing Pumpkins – I of the Mourning Lyrics
| 21 years ago

|
I think this song is about Billy Corgan's return to music and life in general, maybe after dealing with the death of his mother on the Adore album. The lines, "I've blown the dust off my guitar" and "I read your letters to feel better" put it best. He's probably referring to fan letters and the Pumpkins' return to more traditional-sounding music. |
