| Bright Eyes – Happy Birthday to Me (Feb. 15) Lyrics

i saw this song live on the last night of the 'fevers' eoropean tour in Dublin. it was the last song of a long (and spectacular) night, and front of the stage was covered in empty glasses from the audience. conor got so into the song that on every beat, he would pick up a glass and smash it off the floor. the emphasis and intensity had us mesmerised as bits of glass flew everywhere. the man gave his heart and soul on stage. i've never seen someone sing something with such conviction. this is what music is all about.
then on the lifted tour we shared a spliff with the band while they performed. that was cool too. |

frusciante is a god. the gutteral screech leading into the 'up and down...' bit is amazing, and his trademark backing vocals are fantastic & integeral as usual. |

| Jeff Buckley – Lover, You Should've Come Over Lyrics

apparently it was written about the gradual ending of his relationship with rebecca moore. he knew it was ending, that it had to end etc. Jeff played the song at an intimate new york gig while it was still a work in progress, and moore apperently was crushed by the lyrics whose meaning was plain to her. unfortunatly it was BEFORE buckley had added in the 'it's never over..' refrain. it's kinda tragic. |

um, someone said it's the cale version in shrek? it's not- it's wainright. but john cale's version was actually the one the buckley knew and adapted (hence the differences in verses and structure from the cohen version) |

why has no one commented on this song yet? when the chorus reaches it's pinnacle of 'there is no real underground' it's the sound of pure ecstacy. and he made it sitting on the floor of a bare house with no fancy-ass high fallootin studio equipment. the man was a genius. to me, this is the greatest example of the beautiful music that this world lost the night it lost jeff buckley. |

um, jeff actually co-wrote this song with his longtime friend chris dowd- who did have his own band whose name escapes me right now('fishbone'?). Dowd actually wrote the lyric about his own relationship with his estranged father. still, an appropriate song for buckley to sing... |
