i think the meaning is that one person is watching other friend die, slowly. have them kill themselves slowly and unware. like their just doin what they're doin and they don't relaize what they are doin to themselves. and the friend is feeling unable, and useless and really bad because they can't fix the problem. the problem is their friend and the hardest thing is to TELL your friend that they have a problem. and if they are on drugs then you can never break through the real person. every word you speak will fall on deaf ears or the ears a stubborn drug addiction. so when Maynard said "Because I don't want to know I didn't want to know I just didn't want to know I just didn't want " its talkin about the denial that the friend started to go into. the easiest way for people to slove problems is to pretend they don't exsit. if you can't see it, then it not there. hence...
