How does the song fit in you say? Well, in the words of Billie Joe Armstrong it "sets the scene of the world that JOS lives in." But other then that, the song doesn't really fit it. Sometimes I wonder why it's even on the album.
ANYWAY...
I like this song. I am 15. I bought my first GD CD about 9 months ago. So sue me. The American Idiot Album led me on to "Old School" Green Day, which is amazing, and I wish I could have been old enough to listen to it when it was first being released. I feel like I've missed out on this big gap. But anyway, the new Green Day is a GOOD THING. Heck, if it weren't for that album, I'd probably be singing "My Humps".
I'm going to Green Day on the 14th, and I'm going to sing 'Basket Case' at the top of my lungs, just to mock the confused teenage female posers.
Green Day are the best thing that could have happened to me.

I don't want to sound like a wuss, but I CRIED when I heard this song for the first time. It's definitely got something to do with Billie Joe's father, I don't know why, but it has that vibe.

I like the drumming in this song, the bass line rocks, and I love how Billie sings this especially the word "close". Geez it's a weird accent...By the way, I hate Sum41 and Blink182. I wouldn't diss them, but honestly, it's Green day for me and they are the original Punk band of 'our generation'
