| Nine Inch Nails – Capital G Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Welp, I did not read every comment, just the first page I must admit. But yeah, the nice thing about the G is that it connects to Dubya and the Christian God alike, both of which Trent has taken issue with prior to this (anyone remember how he was going to perform The Hand that Feeds at the MTV music awards in front of a picture of George W. Bush but, as he said, it was as offensive to MTV as it was to him, hahaha). But some of the lines are interesting, talking about trading in one god for another. And I have heard a few times that the G stands for Greed. I am not very attentive when it comes to lyrics, I prefer the musical aspects to the literary ones, but without much analysis it seems to fit the theme best. | |

I have no idea what you're talking about. I mean, Wikipedia tells me that "The Fall" is some post-punk something something who's had a lot of influence on LCD, but Google-ing is failing me. So what's this guy talking about? Because The Fall is interesting to me now and I really like this track... DO TELL |

| Is it "I'll be calm" or "I've become"? I thought it meant he was becoming like a part of a whole that's lost it's own will and succumbing to its role. | |

Or the way society condemns so much, and the feeling that you would be hunted for what you are like because it is condemned as antisocial or abrasive. The guitar makes it really eerie, too, as well as the climactic organ. |

I feel the same about this song. It doesn't really matter what the story is exactly, but it's definitely a void of meaning in one's life. The "I'll try harder" lines just have so much tired effort, like he's exhausted of just sticking it out year after year and getting no satisfaction in his life. Particularly touching for me is the part "I act exactly like I should Just like you taught me Like I'm part of something bigger More fulfilling More worthwhile Than anything left in my life," like there's nothing left living for in his personal life so he just becomes an indistinct cog in the machine of society... touching and so sad... |

| Wintersleep – Orca Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| He's talking about all of these things that are terrible and frightening and powerful, but they all have their right place in the natural order of things. It's about not having to submit to the niceness of the social order. There is a time to be soft towards others and a time to be hard; there is a shadow in us of the things we deny for social cohesion that are every bit as important to the wholeness of our selves that we deny too often. Sometimes when walking on eggshells you need to stop focussing on the eggshells you may be breaking and just walk. | |

I agree with a lot of what sunnysenny is saying, and the quote Del Marquis put up first was very interesting. I thought that this song was about a massive life-changing event, but about some very global understandings of the world arising from said event. Listening to the CD, I had wondered if that spoken part was meant to be an end to the previous track or an introduction to this one that just got tagged to the end of the other for pacing. But yeah, I believe that the "bitter bitter man" is what Sarah-Stagedive feared; I believe he is talking about a god (specifically the traditional western/Christian God). In that context, I feel like this song is much more existential, encouraging people to continue living and enjoying life in the face of a meaningless existence (for if God is bitter instead of loving, the world is very different from what we've believed). The way I see it, it's interesting because he is attributing painful life experience to a bitter God, and encouraging us to bravely continue on as individual human beings. And RICH2theARD, I really don't think I agree with you there. He's living in London, England right now I believe, and I'm not sure that everyone cares that Bush is taking away American liberties; there are MUCH worse injustices in the world, that aren't directly supported by our own choosings (you determine your own level of involvement in government, just like in Project Mayhem :). |

| Mika – Lollipop Lyrics | 18 years ago |

Before reading this page, I had a very dfferent idea of what this song was about. Going with what Schock was saying (though why the hell did you capitalize every damn word?), I also thought the contrast between lyrics and music was interesting, because the lyrics were so cynical seeming and hopeless while the music was very happy and energetic. I first thought that the song was claiming that entering into a committed relationship was only setting yourself up for pain and heartbreak, much more than it was worth. The lines "Suckin' too hard on your lollipop, oh love's gonna get you down" and "too much candy's gonna rot your soul" then meant that striving for love was just going to cause you to become bitter (because the relationship will inevitably fail to satisfy the need for love) and a more miserable person. As in, the more/harder you try the worse it gets. However, after hearing what he had to say about it, reading the lyrics out of the actual booklet, and seeing the picture behind said lyrics, I am more than willing to believe that the song's meant to convince his sister to save herself sexually. |

| Imogen Heap – Leave Me to Love Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I love how this song is so short, and her voice sounds almost like it's a little sped up at the beginning. What a great song, with sparse sticatto piano accompanied by a superheavily distorted guitar, I LOVE piano in rock songs! Though I guess she isn't exactly rock... Oh well, one of my favourite songs by her! | |

While I have no idea what this song means, I'm sure MSI is saying something in it. Not all their songs have no meanings, Backmask is the best example that comes to mind. And that Conker video was pretty much crap; it looked like whoever made it just videotaped themselves playing the game... And don't call MTV gay when MSI has songs like "Faggot" and Little Jimmy Urine is openly bisexual. Effing sweet song though, for sure! |

| Marilyn Manson – The Beautiful People Lyrics | 21 years ago |

Anyone ever heard of backmasking? When this song is played backwards, the phrase "the beautiful people, the beautiful people" becomes "I'm evil believe it, I'm evil believe it". In this context, the song actually makes a lot more sense. It's about the way he embraces his evil impulses and the naturally wicked nature of humankind. He points out that other people mask this basic level of humanity in various ways, and that everyone now has their own perception of what is "evil" and what is "good". "Capitalism has made it this way Old-fashioned fascism will take it away" ^ "it" refers to the illusion or the general perception of humankind as good, though it really isn't. |
