| Against Me! – You Look Like I Need a Drink Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| This is the most kickass song by 'gainst Me! 'cept maybe anarcho punx. I have the acoustic version off the 7" Cavalier Eternal vinyl, and it kicks arse. It be aboot, simply, how you can make some pretty fucked up choices without thinking them through, and then the consequences can haunt you. | |

| Wait... the same Peter Garret that's my local MP? Sweet, I never made the connection with him and this song... just Midnight Oil. Wish I could vote. | |
| Frenzal Rhomb – never had so much fun Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| I see the message as "life's shitty, and you can fuck up bad, but you might as well enjoy what you have." And you don't ever have as much fun as you do in your life. | |

It's a song about pride. About how winning isn't exactly everything. And all the images Fat Mike uses (pedestal, ribbon breaking, etc) all have to do with sport, and being a big shot at that. Fat Mike's saying how he doesn't give a flying fuck about any of that shit, how he doesn't care about who can "do it better, harder, faster." Also, he points out that once you're at the top, it's great while you're up there, but the only way to go after that is down, and once you fall, nobody wants anything to do with you, 'cause they're too busy lavishing praise on your successor. I particularly like: "The only battle I will fiercely fight Is one that hibernates inside my head" Because it seems to me to be about expanding your mind, rather than your biceps. 'Inside his head' is like his intellect, and how he would rather be a smart fat guy than a jock who can run a mile a minute but can barely read. |

I reckons that this be aboot how the new shitty pop-punk bands have tried to show everyone (that watches MTV) how rebellious they are, and how it's so easy now to say that you're an Anarchist, or a non-conformist, without actually being it or feeling it: it's become trendy to be a 'punk' (in the twisted new sense of the word). On the other hand, there be bands like Against Me! and the whole indie old-school style bands who aren't in it for the money (yet) are just giving a statement in music form. |
