Scissor Sisters – Mary Lyrics 21 years ago
this is one of my favourites off the album. i reckon its about a guy (probably gay) talking to his best friend Mary, who's been hurt a lot by her boyfriend(s). he's saying that even if she breaks up with them, she'll get over it and he'll always be there for her. it reminds me of me and my best friend - it makes me really sad when she's upset - and how i'd do anything to make her happy again.

Scissor Sisters – Take Your Mama Lyrics 21 years ago
brilliant song, fun but a little sad. the second last verse ('it's a struggle...') makes you think about how hard it is for a gay guy to come out to his mother and how hard it is for her to accept it.

Franz Ferdinand – The Dark of the Matinee Lyrics 21 years ago
to me its more about two schoolboys than a couple. like friends in the same class who bunk off school and go to the cinema and dream about what they'll do when they grow up. the lyrics describe more to me the closeness that exists between two best friends than a couple.

Franz Ferdinand – Michael Lyrics 21 years ago
lol, get over the song lyrics, why do they bother people so much? i don't really believe that the kapranos and mccarthy (who wrote the songs) are gay, but its worth noting that only five songs on the album mention the gender of the person they are singing to/about. of these, three are written from a first person perspective: 'Michael' (dedicated to a guy), 'cheating on you' (about cheating on a girl and then leaving her) and 'tell her tonight' (about confessing a secret to a girl). one wouldn't have to try to hard to attribute a gay meaning to these songs. the other two songs are from a third-person perspective, jacqeline (bout jacqueline and ivor) and auf achse (bout 'bob' - possibly robert hardy the bass player - and an unnamed girl). the rest of the songs could be about either a man or a woman, but 'the dark of the matinee' seems to have homoerotic undertones - as it appears to be about schoolboys mitching school to go to the cinema.
