| Vampire Weekend – Ya Hey Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| This isn't a bad literal interpretation line by line, but says nothing to the songs meaning. He certainly draws a lot from scripture but I think he does so sardonically. | |

I think the reason he used all 3 would be to show the opposites and the middle, the so called "christian nation" that is full of sin. Like I posted on a few others commenters, I think he is coming to grips with breaking from religion and doing so by mocking God. |

He's openly mocking God in the song. "But you love everything... Oh, you saint" |

Ezra has been quoted as calling it a break up song with God. So for starters fsbrown, you're wrong. Also your generalization of all secularists may be due to the fact that people draw meaning from what they believe. It's the same reason you think this is some kind of love letter to God. This describes it better than anyone on here, not to mention is a much better site. http://rock.rapgenius.com/Vampire-weekend-ya-hey-lyrics |

i think this song is obviously about sex but more so towards what deep water said then wilf x. i dont think religion is a factor and that the reference to god is more of cutting through others beliefs.i think ya just let your own feelings get into what you thought the song meant... maybe this song reveals more about the dark nature of selling sex and what that nature can do to a person and the people trying to cover up their acts. the first verse speaks this way: this is television late nite television scripted with precision a corner store pulp fiction sits where your heart isn't but with your eyes so green and your pinkish theme you've made an old friend seem rather dead to me alas the weapon sex can be .. the old friend being sex, and the person being descibed is the woman... a corner store pulp fiction? being a prostitute. |
