i think way too much debating has gone into this song, most of you have taken these beautiful words and pulled, no shreedded them apart to find some inexplainable deeper meaning or some understanding of the song. who needs to know if it's about a horse? the song wasn't written so you could go in and dissect it, music is not meant to be taken so literaly, this site is about personal interpretations, and this song was meant to express something, whatever it be, and it's purpose of being written was for you as a listener to take something, from an experience, memory or whatever somewhere inside the circle of ben folds five that meant something. find your own god damn personal meaning, don't ask others for what it means and please, dear god please don't destroy beauty by your curiosity. for all it's worth, this song IS ABSOLUTLY BEAUTIFUL, no matter what it means literally. take that....take it....let it replace your curiosity, your sadness and your doubt. think with how it feels, not how it was created. |

| my own personal opinion though all these are great pondering thoughts...i think that the song is about a regained past love or a want to regain a past love, and man's hope that it will not leave him again, in a way a break up, but not really just someone he once loved, that is gone. this is my favorite song on the man who, and i find myself listening to it on repeat constantly, it's so beautiful, and i agree those are the best god damn opening lyrics ever, the song just catches from the start, whether it relates to you in a direct way or not, i think all who hear, relate to it in some way, maybe not in a love related, but it's defiantly a song of strong emotion, and deep want and need, a dependency. | |
