I love this song it soo sad tho...I wanna cry everytime I hear it, it so beautiful...(k daone sounding lame) anyway it compliments the end of the story so well taking the ships into the west, i think in the story is use as a euphanism(sp?!?!) of dying... The ones that leave know that they cannot keep going so they take the ships into the 'undying' lands. The song makes 'passing into the west' equivelent to dying, but also says that death is not the end the one that has died is always with them ('safe in my arms you're only sleeping.') and that they will see eachother again in the next life. "All souls pass. Hope fades into the world of night through shadows falling out of memory and time. Don't say, "We have come now to the end." White shores are calling you and I will meet again." (may fav. part of the song, it remind me that everyone will die, but thats not the end) awesome books awesome movies...I suggest them to everyone! |

My Comentary on the song: [the entire song to me DOES have religious meaning b/c they do put God in the song...its all about fighting sin and temptation] catch me as i fall say you're here and it's all over now speaking to the atmosphere no one's here and i fall into myself this truth drives me into madness i know i can stop the pain if i will it all away [The girl has fallen into sin and she is calling to someone to help her, but no one is there. The last line signifies that the sin is causing her pain, whether it be spiritual, mental, or physical pain, but she knows that only she can save herself and find her way back into God's grace.] don't turn away (don't give in to the pain) don't try to hide (though they're screaming your name) don't close your eyes (god knows what lies behind them) don't turn out the light (never sleep, never die) [The refrain is about the temptation of sin...'turning away' is about turning from God and falling back into sin.'don't try to hide (though they're screaming your name) don't close your eyes' is about how that there is nowhere to hide, everywhere there is evil, you can't esacpe it anywhere, the last 2 lines are how you should never give up('dont turn out the light') and that there will always be evil and temptation and that you should always be aware ('sleep' is used to symbolize not watching out for the temptation and 'die' is falling back into sin...'so never sleep never die' is always be aware and you will not faulter)] i'm frightened by what i see but somehow i know that there's much more to come immobilized by my fear and soon to be blinded by tears i can stop the pain if i will it all away [the girl sees that pain and suffering in the world caused by the temptation, but she knows it will only get worse not better. ok i always pictured this song as the singer being a girl in jr. high or high school (k i know Amy Lee is outta high school) who is not the most popular person in the school. The subject of the song is one of the girls or boys who is very popular. The singer realizes that the subject is hiding their trueselves. They are afraid that if they do show who they really are they will not be as popular as they were before, so they hid in lies., but they are also sad b/c they are not who they appear. The singer realizes this and wants to help them, she looks past those lies and sees that this person needs help and offers help but the subject is afraid and refuses her help ("You can't escape, You don't want to escape") |

I luv this song...I guess it could be about God i really like that interpretation...but i also think that it really is about a girl who left her lover and found that she can't go on without him and though she tried to forget him and move on she can't and she comes back to him begging for him to take her back because she needs him... My fav part: When night falls on me I'll not close my eyes I'm too alive (I think that's about being torn between wanting to give up and turning away but something is holding you, and you find yourself holding onto the past, you can't let go, no matter how hard you try...) |

The man in this song, I believe, has been in too many relationships. He's been in love many times and each time he believes that he has found his true love only to end with a broken heart. Now he has met a new 'flame' and he has realized that though she may not be like any of his old girlfriends the relationship will most likely end in heartache. She keeps making moves on him, but he pushes her away because he is afraid of another broken heart He realizes that he isn't the only one who can't find their true love.
