i think it's about an ex that left max to pursue more self-destructive relationships. she left max and is now having one night stand after one night stand. i think the knife is going into her, not max, and she is helping them (all of her new partners) sink it in. wherever you go along this blood-soaked coast you will see my ghost the one you burned the most i'll be there saying that even though she's treated him terrible, both in and out of their relationship most likely, he's still there for her. that's what i think anyway |

| i think the green paper flow in question is the maturing of each of the subjects with regards to money. kinda how money gets more and more important as you grow older and mature. it's a kinda weak interpretation of it within context of the song, but i think i'm right about it meaning money. | |

the best way to play it on the guitar imo is to put a capo on the third fret with standard tuning. then the chords in relation to the capo are C - G - C C - G - C Am - G - C - Am - C - G - C thats how he plays it anyway... |

i don't think that its about anti-depressants at all. i think its about finally getting over that depression that plagued you for so long. namely that first heartbreak, but not exclusively. more like that first time that first time you get completely overwhelmed with depression and you think that you're the only person to ever go through that. then that one day comes along and realize that you're still alive and you do feel better about stuff. it may not have solved itself but you at least feel better about it. im not saying that its a 1 day resolution, but there is that one point where you're like "wow, im still alive and kicking" and that point when you hear your ex's first name and you just think "hey i used to date a girl/guy with the same name" this song is about that time. he has realized that he beat whatever was haunting him and goes on. this song is just amazingly written. he walks outside and instead of the dull depressing day, its nice out. he's been through the woods and learned that there is an end to it and he can tell people about it. he helps out the doctor, and, better yet, the girl that he is singing to in the last 2 verses. he has been through it all and will help her out however he can. its such a great song about the light at the end of the tunnel, whether you see it or not... |

i don't think this song is about a relationship at all. well not really. i think itsabout all the girls that he made empty promises to for sex. he says "all the friends i was telling" showing how he would tell all his friends the next morning. he would wear these girls as badges and show off like they're trophies. the bruises being a metaphor for the problems in the relationship was a good idea and i hadn't thought of that, but i still think that verse describes the way that people talk early on in the relationship. the girl was head over heels for him and was saying idealistic things. its more of a confessional. he doesn't seem very apologetic like cuomo was in "butterfly". he just admits to everything that he has done. this is a great song. one of the best. |

this song is soo good. its like i wrote about how i felt with my ex. we used to road trip all of the time and drive everywhere and this hits dead on how we felt. it was just nice and quiet and we weren't afraid to ask each other the stupidest of questions. that feeling of acceptance is amazing and i really wish that i could have it back. a lot of people define love as the feeling you get when your heart pounds and you get the chills and everything. but that is just when you have a stupid little crush. those people have never experienced true love. ben obviously has and described it here better than i could have imagined possible. its simple, to the point, and gets every single emotion across. i love how he places himself in the passenger seat and gives the control to the girl. i picture perfectly him slouched in the charir with his head resting on top of the door, straring out the window thinking about anything, not worried at all about saying the wrong thing. that love is a beautiful thing. this song makes me tear a little because of how insanely close i can relate to this song. the whole car scenario just hits a little too close to home... |

this song is based around the play/movie Madame Butterfly, which i believe some mentioned earlier. riveres wept uncontrollably when he watched it for the first time. its about a sailor that made false promises to a young girl young girl for sex. rivers sees this relating to himself. i suppose that he was over in japan once and slept with a young girl who loved him and mad promises to return and so on. he promised her that it wasn't a one night stand even though he knew that it was and he realized how much he hurt her. the butterfly in this song is that naive girl. "maybe you're as real as me" says that he is realizing that she has feelings too. he says that he would return but he isn't going to and he's sorry repeats at the end of the song. has to be rivers's best written song... |
