The Get Up Kids – Holy Roman Lyrics 21 years ago
I think this song is very definetely a political attack. The line "Fight the good fight,
Maintain the trend" seems to be sarcastic to me. Especially comparing the United States empire to the Roman Empire, I'm guessing is a statement that we're using any means neccesary to essentially take over the world. Also, it's not "Unpatriotic, friend stabbing friend" it's "Patriotic friend stabbing friend" (Note the missing "un" and the lack of comma.) Which I think it's saying we're using patriotism as an excuse to pretty much lash out at the world.

Yeah.

Cursive – The Recluse Lyrics 21 years ago
This is probably my favorite Cursive song. I love the line "how'd i end up here to begin with?
i don't know
why do i start what i can't finish?
oh, please don't barage me with the questions
to all those ugly answers" Because it fits into my personal life. I have a nasty tendency to start things (all-too-often relationships) with people that I know I can't "finish." I also wind up falling in love with lines from songs I can relate to. the ego and stomach analogy is pretty witty, too.

Cursive – The Martyr Lyrics 21 years ago
Even though the entire idea of Conor Oberst and Tim Kasher having a sexual relationship is absolutely insane....

....is it wrong that if they did, I would want to watch? Heh.I'll shut up now.

Bright Eyes – A Perfect Sonnet Lyrics 21 years ago
"but as for me i'm coming to the final chapter
i read all of the pages and there is still no answer
only all that was before i know must soon come after
that is the only way it can be "

That line basically sums up the last few monthes of my life. This song says so much. The way I interpret is he starts off being sad about love lost (lovers should be tied together, like they should always be with eachother...) which eventually builds up into being angry, such as "why did she leave me?" and "if I can't be in love no one should be" which is where the fire part comes in. The last part is sort of the release of the song, where he let's go, I think. I could be wrong, though, that's just how I interpret the song.

Bright Eyes – Waste of Paint Lyrics 21 years ago
"And I hide behind these books I read
While scribbling my poetry
Like art could save a wretch like me" (and basically the rest of that whole verse...hell, the whole song.) perfectly sums up how I feel about myself sometimes. Like I'm trying to be all artistic but really it's I'm just being pretentious and I can't make anything beautiful. I think everyone feels that way sometimes and I think that's what this song is about. Everyone wants to create something beautiful but everyone, apparently even Conor who obviously has no trouble in that area, feels like they just can't sometimes. Yeah.

Bright Eyes – One Foot in Front of the Other Lyrics 21 years ago
This is my all-time favorite Bright Eyes song and that's saying something. The lyrics and the music are both so indescribably beautiful. It's absolute poetry. Every single word is just so completely full of raw emotion but it still sounds so...polished and perfect.
This song summed up exactly how I felt when I was going through a really difficult relationship/breakup where I no longer wanted to be with him but he was was very into me and I felt too guilty to do anything about it. Especially the lines "I've grown tired of holding this pose, I feel more like a stranger each time I come home." and "I just wanna make a clean escape, I'm leaving but I don't know where to."
If you haven't heard this song, go hunt it down. Now.

Bright Eyes – Neely O'Hara Lyrics 21 years ago
I think this song is just about someone who was an amazing person in the beginning, probably someone very close to Conor, who he basically had to watch ruin their life slowly. It's happened to me countless times. It's one of the most painful experiences in the world to watch a friend slowly fall apart and know there's nothing you can do about it, and I think that's what this song is about.

Also- Neely O'Hara is a substance abusing character from the Valley Of the Dolls, that's how she fits in. To my knowledge this song is not about bullemia, and the throwing up water I think it's probably not supposed to literally mean throwing up so much as just every day "throwing up" more and more of yourself, perhaps your soul. And Neely who he thanks and has brought on stage is a friend named Neely Jenkins but I do not think she is in any way related to this song.

Bright Eyes – Drunk Kid Catholic Lyrics 21 years ago
This is sort of the "theme song" for one of my friends and I. We're both HUGE Bright Eyes fans, and while I'm Catholic (and, for all practical purposes, pretty squeaky clean) and he's basically a huge fucking lush. But we still have more in common than is even reasonable, basically male and female versions of eachother. I guess what this song means to me is that people who seem to be so fundamentally different are often really the same.
