Franz Ferdinand – So Come On Home Lyrics 21 years ago
I thought this song was a bit boring when I first heard it but once I'd heard it a few times and thought about it, I loved it. I imagine it to be about having everything you really ever wanted, but it means they've had to give up somebody they love. So right now they love their life and everything about it, except the fact that this one person is missing from it. Maybe they are kind of putting on an act, sleeping around etc but it doesn't really satisfy them becuase this person who they carry a torch for.So desperately wanting to get on with this wonderful life you have without thinking of them. Ok, so I'm talking rubbish but I think the mystery of what it is really about it why I like the song so much! It gives me a lot to think about when I hear it and I can have my own interpretation of it . Does it really matter it's not the same meaning as the group intended when they wrote it?

But some of the lines do make more sense with the 'Franz & Sopia' interpretation of it!

Wow, Boss 2K, I never really thought of it like that. This is how I took the song
(Quote from Alex from FranzFerdinand.org): "This song is about the tensions between two people, in a sexual sense. That situation when two people are in love with each other but neither will admit it, as if they’d take rejection over acceptance just to end the tension in the situation. "
I think they meant for the song to have more than one possible interpretation, and I also vaguely recall a quote of Alex's where he said he liked abiguity in songs, as it meant the meaning belongs to the listener rather than the performer (or something along those lines).

Franz Ferdinand – The Dark of the Matinee Lyrics 21 years ago
I read the song as talking about all the restrictions of the 'academic factory', how you are a bit of a non-entity and how there isn't really any place to dream, but in the dark of the matinee you are free to imagine your deepest dreams and fantasies. I think its one of their songs where there is no one answer or meaning to the song , it has many themes running through it. Especially as three out of the four members wrote it, compared to most songs on the album that are written by just 2 of them - so there was a greater number of influences on the song. This is probably just me talking rubbish, but I'd like to know if anyone feels where I'm coming from!
