i think that the "there goes a - " part was the girl singing about how she's watching her life go by, but she's not a part of it, and she wishes she could do something about it, but again she's bound by this abusive relationship. i'm not sure, but i'd like to think that she's getting out of the relationship at the end. i tend to make up lots of stuff in a song that isn't really there, but if the "go train" is the right lyric that goes there, then maybe she's watching all this stuff go by on a train and that's her life and she's trying to see where she can jump back on? |

whatever this song is about, i think it is very much counting crows in that it doesn't matter what the whole song is about, each line means something to someone. i think it's just about him feeling like anyone else, cause he wants to be famous, and mr. jones and he just keep plugging along wishing. he has a feeling that it may not be worth it to be famous, but he doesn't care. he doesn't know why he wants what he wants, and he thinks that change in any way will help him to see, and to find something to believe in. when he is famous, weather or not he is happy, at least he'll know |

i think that this song could mean almost anything however you interpert it. the thing with counting crows is that they seem to base their songs around a particular incident or person, and unless you really know, they're only expressing an idea, so you can't always pinpoint a story to every song |

this song is about prostitution, a little obvious. it's got an appropriate accordian part that adds very nicely to the song. props to the decemberists for being so bold as to sing about this time frame and so on. it's a cool song, either you love it or you don't |
