Bright Eyes – If Winter Ends Lyrics 21 years ago
Simply put, this song is mostly about being a teenager. As an angsty teenager, these are the thoughts that you think, (only put into much more beautiful terms). It takes a genius like Conor Oberst to be able to convey them so honestly.

Streetlight Manifesto – Here's To Life Lyrics 21 years ago
this song is a great ode to various masters.

i think from "hey there salinger" right up until "you wanted it that way" is all about salinger, although he is still alive, he has completely disapeared and become a total recluse and refuses to publish anything ever again.

and it actually says
"and KDC you were much too young"
so the end of it is referring to kurt cobain as the last master he talks about/for/to/whatever.

Streetlight Manifesto – A Better Place, A Better Time Lyrics 21 years ago
a good friend of mine sent me this song yesterday and i've had it on repeat since.
it's an amazing song, over all. and the lyrics are wonderful and very touching as well, my favourite being:
annie says "the saddest day i came acrosss was when i learned that life goes on without me"

which i guess i take as this girl (annies) realization that she is not really necessary to anything, or so she thinks, and this obviously made her depressed/started her depression.
amazing.

There's also another reference to the yellow bird, on the same album (wide awake), in poison oak he sings:
"You’re the yellow bird that I’ve been waiting for. "

My Chemical Romance – You Know What They Do To Guys Like Us In Prison Lyrics 21 years ago
In an article about the Used in AP magazine, Bert said that he wrote the song about one time when they were drunk and making out and they were doing so for so long that it wasn't even funny anymore.
Oh man.

Bright Eyes – A Line Allows Progress, a Circle Does Not Lyrics 21 years ago
This song is about the well of depression that a drug-user has fallen into. Near the end he is relating his life to what it was to what it has become now.
"try to name one thing you like, you used to have such a longer list"
I love you Conor Oberst.

Bright Eyes – Lover I Don't Have to Love Lyrics 21 years ago
LOVE this song. So different than any other Bright Eyes songs, and so ... sensual? I can't think of a better word for it.
I don't know if this has been mentioned before, but to me this is a song about having a one night stand but then falling in love with the other member of the one night stand. (Love's just an excuse to get HURT. Do you like to HURT? Then HURT me.)
He's asking for her to hurt him because he understands that that is part of love.
Some people say Conor writes so well so he can get laid. And how well it works.

Bright Eyes – June on the West Coast Lyrics 21 years ago
Oh, and I absolutly LOVE the line, "you see sorrow gets too heavy and joy it tends to hold you
with the fear that it eventually departs." which is so wonderful, as I'm sure everyone has had that feeling of 'this is too much fun, and i'm feeling to good' so much so that you're terrifiied of that mood/time ending.

jayenoh, i agree with you.
i think the lover he is refering to at the end of the song, he has never actually met. i'm guessing this because of the line: "and if all the years of searching find one sympathetic face/then its there i will plant these seeds and make my home " meaning where ever he finds that sympathetic face (his true love, with eyes that make him pure. [gah i love you conor]) he will stay.

Death Cab for Cutie – Tiny Vessels Lyrics 21 years ago
This song personally reminds me of a summer-fling or a dying romance. The summer fling idea is represented in, "i spent two weeks in Silverlake/the California sun cascading down my face"
It's obviously about sex with someone you either used to care about, or never really cared about. Especially because he says "that you said you didn't want to fade/but they did and so did i that day" Showing that either 'he' has faded, or more probably the emotions have faded.

The song itself sounds wonderful and beautiful and stands out somehow.

Bright Eyes – Something Vague Lyrics 21 years ago
ilikefood, you say that he's a "poor rich fucking rockstar" which I don't think is very true. He's probably not poor, but he's said many times that all he wants is a shity car, a house and food and he's fine -- none of his bands are THAT famous, sos i doubt he's all that rich.

Something Vague was a song I'd never heard before I bought Fevers and Mirrors (I had Lifted first) and i put the CD in right after I bought it, and was doing homework, I remember when something vague came on for the first time i just stopped everything and was amazed. Everything about this song is fabulous.

Bright Eyes – The Movement of a Hand Lyrics 21 years ago
to what the people were saying at the beginning - Conor does that a lot. Using the same words, on various albums (repeated mentionings of being depressed only in the winter, bright eyes (not the band, but the actual concept) and other such things. Look for them.)

Taking Back Sunday – A Decade Under The Influence Lyrics 21 years ago
This song is a hundred times more amazing when being performed live - I guess it's a lot more fun hearing Adam screaming/shreiking at the audience, "to hell with YOU and all YOUR friends"
Not to mention being the sexy beast that he is.
