| Arcade Fire – Crown of Love Lyrics

I know xheyohx blew the doors off the whole thing with the article, but the quote still only gives a fairly general explanation of the love theme, so there's still room for interpretation.
I think the cheating explanation makes the most sense since it encompasses both his guilt/failure and his hope to get past the incident. He wants to go blind because every time he closes his eyes he sees his girlfriend's name and he feels guilty - maybe even haunted - by the reminder. He then asks for forgiveness in the chorus while admitting that his own luster (crown) has dimmed by his nefarious deed. Maybe the changing of her name is in fact a change of title - from girlfriend to ex-girlfriend I suppose - while she decides whether she has forgiven him or not. Throughout most of the song he's waiting to find out if she'll forgive him, but finally she gives him the "straight answer" which is no. After this he becomes filled with emotion, determined that she is the one he wants, to the point of obsession. |

I don't think there's a whole lot to delve into here. It's a condemnation of how child stars are routinely screwed up once they grow up. The Bigfoot reference is showing that while people get caught up with ridiculous urban legends, they're blind to the fact that children are being exposed to a grown up lifestyle way before they're ready. The "they are getting into bars" part could allude to all these pictures we see of stars like Linsday Lohan exiting bars when the whole world knows they're not 21 and doing nothing about it.
Bringing Bush into this argument is a big stretch IMO, it's not like he had a wartime draft or anything. |

| Clap Your Hands Say Yeah – Is This Love? Lyrics

I agree with blanktom in that this is about a guy who's either too stubborn or too naive to realize that the girl he's going after isn't into him. The wavering chorus goes from the rhetorical question "is this love?" to various positive affirmations persuading himself that this girl truly likes him.
I have no idea what the Zarathustra or Broken Fist has to do with anything though unless he's suggesting they either read Nietzsche together or do whatever has to do with Broken Fist. |

I think the title is just a way of saying what a cold person his ex-girlfriend is. Fairly straightforward lyrics, the propulsive rhythm and emotive singing is what makes this tune a classic. |

This song is one of those songs where it makes you feel like crying even when you're happy; and not in a dumb way, just a way where you can feel the emotion of the singer and understand the emotions he's conveying. Wouldn't we all like to feel like there's nothing "more than this"? |

Sounds to me like a guy meets a girl who is from out of town, they have a great time, he wishes she could stay around but alas she is only in town for one night and must be gone, never to be seen again. Seems a bit simplistic, but then again some songs are. |

Good lord, anyone who doesn't see this as an obvious satire of let's see, ummm, BOHEMIANS needs to get their head checked. The song is about people who think they're cool because they were thick rimmed glasses and have a goatee but are actually losers because they're poor as hell, work as a waiter/waitress, have a crappy car, need to have someone help them pay the rent, etc. Anyone who thinks this is some sort of love song is sorely mistaken. |

Sounds kinda like a "we will overcome" rebellion type tune with lines like "when the pawn takes a queen" and "awakened to cheers after years on the faultline". Sounds like they're using the Jews building the pyramids for the Pharaoh as the vehicle. |

Nice observation ledskynyrd, except they named a previous album after this song. Although this song appears on Physical Graffiti (which came out in 1975), it was written while they were writing the album this song takes its name from in 1973. Speculation is that they saved it for later because it sounded too much like "Dancing Days". |

The line "high hopes hailla ball" is definitely not what they say in the song. Speculation has been made whether it's something like "cuz it's hell I'm heading for" (which is my guess as well) and "got a hellhound on my tail".
The song is in fact about the fans at a concert.
If you listen closely during the bridge in the middle of the song you can hear a phone ring as well. |
