| Deicide – When Satan Rules His World Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
Deicide's lyrics are straightforward and generally don't really require much in the way of thinking to figure them out. In a nutshell, the Christian god is ineffectual and cowardly and by default has allowed the world to be dominated by Satan. Whether it's making a true statement or not is besides the point in the context of this website Those who choose to use this as a forum to outright insult the music genre or the artist are out of line and should stick to pages they can contribute to constructively. |

| Metallica – The Four Horsemen Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
Geez. The song is just about how the four horsemen of the apocalypse will come down and kick lots of ass and if you stand in their way you get fragged. The perfect imagery for a young heavy metal group looking to kick ass. I don't think they meant to look beyond for additional imagery on this song. It sounds cool with the horsemen/apocalypse/armageddon/end of days/bible wording and mentions of ass kicking but that's about it. |

| Metallica – Harvester Of Sorrow Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| I think the song is more symbolic of a concept much like the four horsemen of the apocalypse. The Harvester of Sorrow makes bad things happen. The first person references are just vehicles for the idea of this "grim reaper" type of figure who causes lots of pain, misery, and death. | |
| Metallica – Whiplash Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| Just a thought but Metallica's a little too old to band their heads anymore. Banging could easily result in serious physical injury at their age. Give them a bit of a break. | |
| Metallica – To Live Is to Die Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| That first line was also spoken by Merlin in the movie "Excalibur" when giving a speech to the victorious knights after a battle (I think). That was released in 1981 | |
| Metallica – Don't Tread On Me Lyrics | 21 years ago |

Good analysis, yllas. This song is certainly presenting an extreme (and not entirely positive) message about patriotism, not like simple anthems by country/western singers. Metallica is too complex to resort to such blatant feel-good tactics. Also the song being in support of soldiers isn't entirely correct. The song refers to minutemen and militia who come from private citizen volunteers who took up their own weapons in order to combat invaders. I think most people have forgotten that fact as they sit in front of their couch watching MTV, comfortable in teh knowledge that Mexico and Canada aren't looking to expand their empires anytime soon. |

One word: suicide. Anybody who reads differently is from another planet and their universal language translator is broken. By the way, this is the 100th comment for this song. Nice. |

| Metallica – Low Man's Lyric Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
It's a story about a bum who put himself there despite the best efforts of those around him who tried to help. Frankly you can't fall much lower than that, short of death on the street. Heck you're already halfway there. A "trash fire" isn't symbolic of very much other than a trash fire, and makes more sense when you see homeless on the street huddled around 55 gallon oil drums burning garbage during the winter. |

| Bruce Springsteen – I'm on Fire Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
This song is a line by line description of a serial killer. Ok, not really. But imagine my amusement when I realized how perfectly the words DO describe the psyche of a serial killer. Think I'm joking? Detailed analysis on my website, tongue firmly in cheek, yet the analysis is surprisingly "real." |

| Pantera – Cemetery Gates Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| And I really enjoy how the song starts as well. Makes you think they're going for a sad slow jam before it literaly sounds like they're dropping a nuke with the opening riffs. | |
| Pantera – Cemetery Gates Lyrics | 21 years ago |

Not sure it's my song of choice when listening to Pantera when I'm driving though. Love lost? Check. Love dead? Check. Lost faith? Check. Doesn't get any more depressing surrounded with the most appropriately gut wrenching music. Grabbed me by the head and slammed me into the ground kind of music. Doesn't get any darker and angrier than this in terms of kick ass songs with this subject matter. |

| Metallica – The Unforgiven II Lyrics | 21 years ago |

ASFalcon13 nailed it as James Hetfield has said himself that it deals with love and murder. The murder lines are pretty subtle but they're clearly there. As far as whether the character referred to in the first person dies as well, not sure about that. Seems like the murder sets the character free in some way. Ranks right up there with "Sanitarium" for the dark subject matter and Really Angry Lyrics(tm) but not quite as fast paced and more open to interpretation than that one. |

| Metallica – Master of Puppets Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
I don't think it's fair to pin it on just cocaine. "Needlework" makes a strong case for heroine, for example. Far as I can recall, you snort powder and you smoke rock but you don't generaly inject it; that's reserved for the big H. Except for maybe "black tar" heroine which is also smoked but I don't think made as big a splash. ANYWAY... The song is certainly about drug abuse and not about politics or being controlled by society or religion although there are some obvious parallels. |

| Metallica – Welcome Home (Sanitarium) Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
I think some people are interpreting this song a little too figuratively when it should be read more literaly. People with mental "issues" are getting more and more agitated by the conditions in their institution and are on the edge of revolt. A nice angry theme perfect for a song of this caliber and great lyrics to complement this very excellent song. Of course there are some symbolic parallels you can draw about being repressed by society and all, but the case for symbolism isn't as obvious as in the title track Master of Puppets. |
