it's definitely hinting some refference to the book 1984, as I read the book, I saw the line "we are the dead" many times and then I read over these lyrics again, and stuff like "we dug ourselves an early grave" is about Winston and Julia in the book because they begin revolt against big brother

I think it's all about how the what the world is comming to now. "no one uses the phone anymore. the tracks are wrecked and the odometer's ticking." It's all like, how we all are using COMPUTERS and cars and junk, even though our last generation made something for this. This is about how all of our past inventions are wasted because of our new ones. It's bittersweet because we get better technology, but the ones we already have wasted money and time and work and aren't used anymore. AFK= away from keyboard in online lingo and they're saying "i'm a.f.k. and i can't get by." because it's like "Oh god, I'm away from my computer, WHAT DO I DO NOW????" Kind of thing. |

ahhh, you douchers suck, an artist has to have a message, thats the entire reason they become artist in the first place, they need to get a message across. Except of course like stupid bands who only sing about screwed up relationships and how many girls they want to fondle. yea, losemoney is a fucking asswhore, thrice is not at all selling out. I think they are getting across their views on the world, which happen to be very interesting, in their own way, through their music. I guess they got a little more attention, so they figured they should write a song that gets across their points. I've been to africa and seen this stuff, it's real and I feel like such a greedy american whenever I do something like buy myself stuff. So losemoney is a jerk ass poser who tries to say everyone is selling out just because they have a little more attention. |

This song is more proof that Pinback is obsessed with WW1 and WWII. Versailles is the treaty that ended WWI. Manchuria is the Chinese city that the Japanese attcked in WWII and Tripoli is I'm pretty sure a battle in North Africa or Italy that drove The Germans backward. Awesome song, but I think he wrote it while taking notes in 9th grade history |
