oh man, i just ranted about how great the episode with pete's favorite song is in another thread, but i must say again, that this is the BEST. i love when anyone is passionate about music! pete and pete is definalty the best show to come out of that nickelodeon era. i can still watch the shows and be completely entertained. oh how i wish i could watch riiight now. |

pete and pete still ranks as an alllll time favorite show. i used to watch it with my whole family. recently i came home and my brother was playing this song on the guitar and i freaaaked out. it was pretty exciting. i hadn't heard or thought about it in years. my favorite episode was when pete found his favorite song that a band (polaris i'm pretty sure) was plyaing in a garage. so he starts a band to try to "find" the song again. they do all these covers of other songs... its fantastic. not that i am weirdly obsessed or anyhting... uhh... anyhow, i love this song and wish they would put all the episodes on dvd. |

this song is the intro to an amazing musical experience (HA.. am i cliche or what??) but it really is :) anyhow, i definatly quoted this in my graduation speech, becasue i couldn't get up there and pretend that i knew all the answers or had some great original advice. all i could offer were the words that i live by. life is what you make of it. so go out and see and experience things. thats all you can do. that really is all your life will ever be. plus, i had to pay homage to my mom for everyhting she has done for me by quoting her favorite album of all time... the woman has taste.
oh and that whole wizard of oz thing. yeah, it is pretty cool, and i know people think you have to be high to appreciate it but i discovered it before i even knew about drugs and still thought it was freaky as a fourth grader... the wizaed of oz being my favorite movie at the time ;) |

i have that netscape radio thing from aim and i often listen to the "melancholia" station at night. I was half asleep but i sat straight up in bed after the first few lines of this song came on. i hung to every word that came out of the speakers. it was like connor was singing everything i ever wanted to say but didn't know quite how. i couldn't sleep that whole night. every word in this song is brilliant. every section makes me cry. each time i listen i feel like i am hearing for the first time becasue of the way he sings it. i think that every disillusioned youth can relate; all we want is to be loved and to believe in our souls. |

this song is my measure of love in a sense.... i have always wanted to feel love the way that this song makes me imagine. i guess i still havn't found it. maybe i am setting too high of standards with this though... maybe i should find some nsync song to compare to; that will make it easy! :) in anycase, this song is amazing no matter how you interpret it. |

seems like a lot of people have had a similar experience... like most damien songs, this one retold yet another chapter in my life history. the pure and raw emotion in the end of the song takes my breath away. i dont care waht bob33 says, i think the line is perfect, sums up everyhting that has happened to me in the last 6 months. |

i immediatly related to this song upon first listening. i feel like i have been on both sides of this story. i know what it feels like to want someone so bad and them only to push me away, "what i am to you, is not what you mean to me"... i really did throw my self... ready to do anything but to still be turned down after recieving years of mixed messages. and then, i too, have felt like i am too much for someone to handle. knowing how i am, i don't want someone that i care about to put themselves on their knees before me. i feel like even if one hasn't had similar experiences, one can still relate to that tone in damien's voice... everyone can feel their own version of sorrow through the conversation between the two singers. just beautiful. sigh. |

at the high school i went to the graduating class always got tshirts at the end of the year. well one year they had "what a long strange trip it's been" printed in huge spiraling letters on the front. i thought it was so funny that someone talked their oblivious class advisor to make shirts with a blantant drug reference from the grateful dead. i have always loved this song and now it reminds me of major mile stones in life (ie graduation) and silly high school traditions, oh and dumb people who don't know a dead reference when they hear it. |

the song is pure nostalgia for me... this song embodies my dad. not only do we share our love for the dead but the song always reminded me of him.. always on the run with the devil... never quite able to tie himself down to responsibilities or traditional conventions of life. people like that can equally bring the most joy and pain to life, you just have to accept thats how they are and learn to love it :) a friend of the devil IS a friend of mine |

i can vividly remember hearing this song for the first time when i was like 12 in a movie... but i cannot figure out what movie it was... if anyone knows that would be great! it was about some kids in hick-vill and they fall into a water silo at the end... a comming of age story, you know... yeah... anyways... when i heard it i became obsessed and had to find all music by the stones. it never gets old to me... still get chills every time i hear it. |

wow. some controversey here. i just want to know what is wrong with having ideals? what is wrong with imagining a world with peace? do we all have to be hard realists all the time? i don't think that wishing for peace is ignorant. i know that wishing doesn't get anyhting done; we all know that. john knew that. just becasue you like and respect the song doesn't mean you are out of touch with reality. anyhow, why does everyone get so freaked out by the mere hint at communism? has red-scare propaganda damaged our nation so badly that the musing of a world with no cumbersome religion and government to screw everything up is wrong? nothing will change if you don't dream it first. obviously not all experiments in socialism have worked. but can you blame people for trying to change? humans are not perfect. therefore any system we create will be flawed. john himself was no perfect human. however, i don't think there is any harm in, for a moment, trying to visualise john's message.
oh, and by the way, someone said something about heaven and god being reality. that's really not an argument to get into on a message board. nothing is more infurriating than someone stating the superiority of thier personal religious beliefs. just like you "know" there is no god, i "know" there isn't. it's a pointless fight. xmastime has it right, LOVE is all you need. |

isn't it amazing how so many people really are kept drugged by religion, sex, and tv? we all want to stay under the illusion of american superiority and invincibility and believe that if we can make enough money to buy our happiness and safty our lives will be complete. this song hits me hard every time i listen to it because of how true it rings... think of how many lives are completly wasted in the quest for wealth and image. it's the "american dream". i recently moved to manhattan and all of these things have been made even clearer. we don't have to fall in with the sedated masses. we have the ability to think for ourselves. we have the choice. it just makes me sad to think of how many people are completly unaware... just flipping the channels, mindlessly absorbing all this crap and then spending thier money trying to find this promised hapiness. nothing like bitter cynicism at 3 am! :) |

i think the beauty of elliot's music is that you can inpret it so many ways and that so many people can relate to it. What touches me about the song are the lines:

the images stuck in your head

For me, elliot is speaking of someone he wants to love and to take care of and make better. I have had this experience where you want someone to let you into thier hearts becasue you think that you can help them and its hurts so much to see them waste away and not let you in. So you try and try and only hope that they will let you show them that everything can be ok. |

I can't believe that no one has commented on this song... i guess different songs just speak to different people; this one just touches me. I cried the first time I heard it. It's so exestential... just accepting the way that things are and aknowledging that there is no one there to look out for you and that you are really, in fact, alone. There is no one to be mad at and no where to direct your anger or emotions... you can only slip into the monotomy of life and continiue on alone. |
