I'm not sure I hear much of a similarity to I Want You other than the fact that they both make it onto the top 10 list for me of Third Eye Blind.
I can't believe there aren't more comments on this song. It is BY FAR my favourite on Ursa Major. |

From what I've heard, Brian is not very fond or connected to his mother at all. She forced Christianity on him and that clearly wasn't the route he wanted to take. Maybe I'm wrong but I've read many interviews where he's said he doesn't see or talk to either of his parents often. |

I think it has something to do with a one-night stand maybe with a virgin maybe not. I'm thinking it'd be a virgin because he says, "don't lose your face." So I think maybe he convinced her to sleep with him and then later he is telling her what a mistake she made and he only wanted her for sex. Another totally contrary thought is that it might be about prostitution though I'm not too convinced with this idea. |

I think it's of course about peeping on someone, either girl or guy but realizing how low you really are. I think he's saying how early on he got on the wrong track and now he has nothing left to do but peep on this one person who seems to make his life feel fuller and he feels better about himself while he is peeping. |

I think this song is about how he has a loathing towards the world and his lifestyle he just decides to drink it all away. Drink it so it's pretty and not horrible and ugly. I have doubts it's about 9/11, one reason being he lives in Britain. I also think it's about hating all the people that can just shrug it all off like the government, second verse. How they make horrible choices and decisions but they don't care and he thinks they ought to wake up and see what they're doing to the world and their countries. I actually think it's about hating today's society mostly. |

It's true.. he also said when asked which song he would put on a collection of horrible songs he said Nancy Boy. Though he also said he doesn't hate it but that the band has just grown out of it which is true if you listen to any of their later stuff. I know Molko is notorious for saying false meanings for songs but I found this quote of his from an interview, "It's about suicide rates going up on public holidays: Valentine's Day, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve. All the lonely people get extremely depressed. It can be quite a dark period if you find yourself alone. Especially with birthdays for me, it always reminds me of all the things that were crap about my childhood, so I don't like them. It's that kind of vibe in the song. It's a song about desperation. It's making the link between special days being spent with people that you love and if they're not there, or if you don't have anybody, it's kind of a dark time." |

Basically I have to agree with steadlydrowning. This song is awfully depressing to me mostly because I don't have this kind of relationship with anyone including God and almost everyone around me has someone. Also for the simple fact that I listened to this song for thirty minutes straight just bawling locked in my bathroom after a huge fight with my parents. And on top of this.. my best friend really let me down and the guy i've like for almost two years basically told me he hates me.
Enough complaining from me.. back to the song. I'm betting that this song is about God even though God isn't really in my life though it can be interpreted in other ways. I'd like to think that it is about a girl-boy relationship though I'm certain it was meant to be about God.

If everyone just ignores OldskoolrockerJTS, he will go away.. although the song has been interpreted many times, I'm gonna interpret to how I see it..
I never thought I'd die alone--when he was younger he never thought he would die this way and that life wouldn't get this hard.
I laughed the loudest who'd have known?--he was always the one laughing either to cover up his pain or when he was younger he was like this.
I traced the cord back to the wall
No wonder it was never plugged in at all--I think he is just saying that things at this point of his life aren't working out for him and nothing ever seems to be right.
I took my time, I hurried up--I think he is trying to say that even though he wasn't 100% sure he actually wanted to die, he didn't want to change his mind when it was too late so he hurried up.
The choice was mine I didn't think enough--I'm thinking maybe this is a view from heaven where he regrets it all or maybe for instance if he slit his wrists and realized right after that maybe he didn't want to die but knew it was too late to turn back and that he already made the decision.
I'm too depressed to go on--Pretty straight- forward ..he wants to die because everything is just too much.
You'll be sorry when I'm gone--This is for everyone who either thought he wouldn't do it or for everyone that loathed him but once he was gone, would regret the hating.
I never conquered, rarely came--He was never good enough for himself and never able to compete with everyone else.

The world was wide, too late to try--I think he's saying that too much has happened and that giving the world another chance wouldn't change anything and that it would be worthless.
The tour was over, We'd survived--Even though he could physically survive.. he couldn't mentally and everything was building up.
I couldnt wait til I got home
To pass the time in my room alone--I don't agree that this is a sarcastic comment. I think that he is fed up with most of humane and that his room is the only place he can be alone and think and get away from the outside world.
I never thought I'd die alone--Same meaning as earlier.
Another six months I'll be unknown--Either everyone will have reacted greatly at the beginning but after awile they would have completely forgotten and not cared about him killing himself or they would just shut him out of their lives because it's not something they want to talk about or think about.
Give all my things to my friends--Basically he wants his things given to his friends because they still had meaning.
You'll never set foot in my room again.--This could mean two completely opposite things.. either that they won't literally go in his room because they don't want him forgotten and they want it left how he left it or that they will shut the door and never want to look in there in fear of remembering all the pain. But with the next line in the song I am going for #2.
You'll close it off, board it up--This is saying that they will shut him out of their lives forever fearing pain.
Remember the time I spilled the cup
Of apple juice in the hall--He's remembering things from his past and how no one will have to worry about another spilt glass or juice in other words saying that they won't have to worry about him causing anymore trouble.
Please tell mom this is not her fault--this kindof goes with the previous two lines saying that even though he had many fights with her mother.. his death isn't about her.
I never conquered, rarely came--Same as above.
Tomorrow just holds such better days--This is perhaps the other outcome of his depression ..the first few verses was the actually killing himself consequence and this is the positive one where he decides to look on the bright side and saying that tomorrow will be better and things will get better.
Days when I can still feel alive--Everything will get better with time like most things do.
When I can't wait to get outside--Things will go back to how he imagines his 16th year and this is a phase in life, more like a test he has to get through.
The World is wide, the time goes by--Even though the world is hard.. things will get better and even though his life is in a rut right now, time is a healer and he will get better.
The tour is over, I survived--He can survive the tour and he will survive life ..not literally but this phase of his life.
I can't wait til' I get home

Now that I think about it, I think this song is about being on tour and them interpreting it as spring break because they didn't have one. |

That is such a beautiful line. I think it's for every lust and fake crush we've ever had. For ever gorgeous person we've looked at and told our friends that we love them but we have never talked to them. Also, for every movie star we have "liked" when we can't really admit that we have ever loved someone. But in total I think the song is of course about someone that loves you and you think is beautiful but they really don't mean a thing to you. You either dislike their personality or it just doesn't attract you. Or perhaps you like them for sexual reasons. |

Avril Lavigne is a sad human being. Her songs are pop and nothing but.. they especially aren't punk or rock.. if you think this is punk then you haven't heard real good punk like The.. urr nevermind.. her songs flood the radio and the top 40 lists and it makes me sad.. and all you trying to interpret her songs.. she has no writing skills.. at all and every single one of her songs is either described by it's title or describe in the first udderly horrific first line.. she's no more punk than Britney Spears and Jessica Simpson.. she just wants to be and thinks she is.. and all you saying, "This song is revenge." How is this song revenge in any way? It's called poetic justice but Avril certainly doesn't have poetry skills so grow up kids and go back to grade four if your not already there.. Avril wrecks to punk scene by trying to include herself.. what a disgrace.. check out some real music.. and you know what's funny.. it says at the bottom of the main Christina Aguilera page..
