so what if this song is different to the stuff they usually put out! Hey, we'd get a little bored if they put out the same stuff over and over again. This is an awesome song and the crows are the greatest band ever. |

I hate Busted! But of course I'm jealous of them! They have shit loads of fans and money and have absolutely no talent. It's sick |

this is a good song, but not one of their best. It's a shame that people will remember them for this and not Amity Gardens or Fine Day For A Parade. |

it's quite a simple song with incredibly good lyrics, basically just a love song. girls falls for traveler but doesn't want a real relationship.
"please do not ever look for me,
but with me you'll stay" |

dont agree with mrsbananaboat because of the alternate verse mentioned by perth -
"there was a kid named scot bell,
who wanted to bring his tonsils in a jar for show and tell,
but when he went to get them
his mom had thrown them out in the garbage"
that kind of goes against the embarassment thing, along with the abus thing. I think this song is just about bad things happening to kids, but it's phrased very complicated-ly (if that's a word) and with brilliant lyrics. Fantastic song. fantastic band. |

A beautiful song, but JessiL, Mary is dead. I saw them live and Chris Thile was laughing about it cos he wasnt too sure when he wrote the melody, hence why he wrote it in a major key. Burns is contrasting the death of Mary with the flow of the river being a metaphor for the passage of time. |

ARGH! NO NO NO! This song is not about his penis!!! It's about Adam's dreams, perhaps a dream he had or him wanting to become a big star, illustrated by the line "we all wana be big stars" :-P My biggest clue came when I heard the live version, where at the beginning he says "this song is about my dreams". The people who think this song is about his penis are the same people who think Bob Dylan's I Want You is about drugs. |

This song is about Adam wanting to dream about changing his life around, and meeting mrs.potter. The line "i dream i never know anyone at the parties, and i'm always the host" shows the falseness of the hollywood community. Wonderful song. |

Ok, I am such a huuuuuge counting crows fan and all these song explanations seem pretty accurate for a song I didn't quite understand. One question, Adam uses two women in all his songs, Elizabeth and Maria. Does anyone know why? |

I think this song is about someone who is tired of life, and the over industrialization of it all, cleverly set in a wall street stock market or something to that effect. Amazing song |

What an amazing song! But it soooo pisses me off when idiots put it on a "love hurts" album!?!?! Kids committing suicide doesn't really make me think of being dumped. Michael Stipe is a fantastic lyricist |
