| Fall Out Boy – This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race Lyrics
| 19 years ago
|
Ahh you all amuse me so much. All this talk about "ZOMG THEY SOLD OUT!1" cracks me up. Lecturing to people what's real punk or not, is really just about as pathetic as others thinking that Fall Out Boy is real punk. Honestly, it's not real punk music. It's more of a pop-punk sound. "Gateway Punk" mind you. I mean honestly, this is the kind of music that gets people to START listening to the real stuff. Fall Out Boy. Green Day(their early stuff is real punk...now they're in this Gateway Zone). Blink 182. Angels and Airwaves. you get the point. These are the guys in the mainstream. Their stuff gets on the radio. Kids listen. Then through these artists and some willing friends/others, they get into the other stuff. The pure punk stuff. You know, like Black Flag, The Clash(my favorite, btw), Sex Pistols, New York Dolls, etc. It's Gateway Punk. Nothign wrong w/ being the Guardians to Awesome. Hell I appreciate it.
Personally, I like this song. It's pop w/ a punky edge. Not real punk, but gets you singing and listening. Just because they have some mainstream success doesn't mean it's a bad thing. It can be a good thing for the punk movement. We were all once those ignorant dumbasses who thought that Blink 182 was real punk. We grow. This stuff helps. And honestly. Just like it for face value.
Of course I'm someone who likes all different types of music for what they are. I prefer listening to 60's music, to be honest. |

This song has many meanings. Death, love, returning after finding yourself, etc. Let's just all agree to disagree. Okay?
This song has a meaning to me. Reminds me of my senior year of high school. My friend and I used to play this on the piano all the time. It was like our song. oddly enough he went away while I stayed and when he came back, things were different. Kinda like how this song rolls. |

This is exactly how you feel when you're with somebody you love. It's just all happy fluffy times, and while life sucks sometimes, it just seems to be so much better when you're with that person.
With this song, I imagine two people in love just chilling out together, passing time. Driving across town with slushies in hand and just looking at the stars on top the car while this song is playing. Oh and there'll probably be a beach there too. |

I love this song. It's an old jazz standard. I find it about two people who are really good friends and well they kinda find out that they're basically meant to be and it's just that "Oh god it just HAD to be you, huh?" sort of way. They looked all around for that one and it was them all along adn they're like "oh man it just HAD to be you huh?" :P that's the way I see it atleast |

| The Supremes – You Can't Hurry Love Lyrics

God I love this song. It's just about keeping calm and just waiting for love to come your way. We all want love, but we can't just rush out and get it as much as we want it to do. It won't happen like that. It happens when you least expect it and who you least expect.
Actually a memory I have of this song is actually a little contradictory. I was driving to work and had just gotten off the phone w/ a guy I like, but I didn't really realize it then...but as I was driving, thsi song came on, I began to sing along and just as the chorus hit, it hit me that I liked him. It was an amazing feeling. |

This song is so simple but effective. It's basically like that weird time in between the acknowledgement of the attraction between two people and the officialization of the relationship. You're almost there, and it'll come your way, but there's just taht whole "having to get over that damn shyness" factor. |

I heard this song for the first time last night when I was driving, it's a very sweet song. I love the jazzy feel to it, and I gotta say many people can relate to this song.
It's basically about two friends who like each other but yet only just one is one of them realizing that the other feels the same way.
I love the line "C'mon tell me, what's right with you?" I think it's just so great of a line. And equating the whole "okay when did this happen" verse like watching a movie and pointing out the little hints and stuff is just great.
Yeah I like this song a lot. |

| Cat Stevens – Father And Son Lyrics

|
This is basically the definition of the relationship between parents and teenagers. Doesn't matter the situation but every teenager feels the way of the son one or twice in their lives and every parent takes the role of the father once or twice in their lives.
Everybody believes that they're right and everybody believes that their side is more important. The father in the song is well meaning but kind of ignorant to his own son's problems and not listening. The son is confused adn just wants answers, but he can't find them through his father and he knows he hsa to find them on his own but he's scare.d At least htat's teh way I see it. |

I think this song is about two friends who slept with each other in some drunken escapade. And there's many things going on in each other's heads, and it's like 'WTF just happened here' Sure he's not sure what he's thinking, as he says in the song, but he is thinking. He wonders if the girl will change her feelings, but he still feels the same. As for what the same means, there's two meanings. It could be like he's neutral and likes it better as friends OR it could be like he's liked her for all this time and he still feels that way after the sex. |

| Maroon 5 – Sunday Morning Lyrics
|
This is just me, but I don't think of Sunday Morning as a huge sex song. There's definitely sex undertones, but not a sex song. I think of it more as him thinking back to a time when he was with the girl in the song and wishing that he could get back with her and start over again.
Don't we all feel that way?
IIRC, the album Songs About Jane is a bit of a concept album revolving around Adam Levine's ex of the same name. The only song that doesn't fit into that mold is "Harder to Breathe" I think this song is more in the aspect of, it's over and I missing her. |

This song is a great pump-up song. The abusive relationship angle works pretty well, but I think of it really as some sort of song about a fight. It comes across as a kind of song like "You starting crap with me? How dare you say that ish about me" and then the fight goes on and the one who stuck up for himself ends up victorious.
And also, I think this is a great song for a closer in baseball. I mean, it just seems to ooze closer mentality, IMO. It's a nice song from a sports angle as well. |

This song is a nice metaphor for the way life goes. Sometimes, you're dealt with a great hand, sometimes you're dealt with a crappy hand. It depends on how you work it and what you do with it. It's just one guy telling the other that trick to life. You need to work your cards just right and you got to do what you can. In life, you can't just assume you'll do well and you'll be great you got to wait until the dealing is done and see what happens. |

The song is about not regretting your past relationships. It's about not looking at how the breakup happened or how it screwed something up. It's about looking at the good times, and the good memories...and not regretting.
I went out with one of my best friends in high school. It was a great time and some magical nights were shared between us two. However, it all went sour fast and we had a horrible breakup. However, I never regretted it. Because it was fun while it lasted. I hope he does well in life and I don't have any sore feelings anymore....I do wish it could've lasted longer, but I don't have many regrets....it was good times |

Two people who loved each other who couldn't be together any longer due to distance of some sort like moving or college. The distance and inability to see the one they love drives the narrator of the song crazy. The narrator is reminiscing and wishing that their love would be there by their side. And he's basically wondering if his love is feeling the same way. |

| Dropkick Murphys – Tessie Lyrics

|
The song is a tribute to the Royal Rooters back in 1903. They used to torture and heckle the hell out of the other team with this old Broadway tune called "Tessie" This is an updated and different version. The lyrics were written by Jeff Horrigan, a writer from teh Boston Herald. Johnny Damon, Bronson Arroyo and Lenny DiNardo all of the Red Sox did backup vocals. Pokey Reese was going to, but he couldn't make it.
And they played this song during July 24th game before it happened....which is....you guessed it, the brawl game.
Just a fun song to sing out loud in the car |

| Hoobastank – Running Away Lyrics
|
I went through this same exact situation right when this song came out on the radio. I remember the day my ex broke up with me, and I heard this song, and how I got instant chills down my back from it.
This song is basically about being in a relationship with somebody who can't open up. The reasons are unexplained, which was genius of them because it can appeal to anybody.
This is basically about the narrator of the song breaking it off, but also confronting their love on why they're running away and what was wrong.
The narrator(who could be male or female) is frustrated and can't understand what the hell is exactly their problem. They want to help, they want to be there, but their love isn't letting them.
One lyric I love is when the narrator shouts out "And I was the one who was lifting you up when you thought your life had had enough". I'm guessing that they helped them alieve them somewhat of their problem. Though they weren't completely sure.
One final lyric I like which is commonly missed because it's in the end amongst the chorus which goes "What is it that I've got to say? To make you admit you're afraid" This seems to make me think that there's was a bad relationship with the narrator's love before their love. |

| Bob Seger – Still The Same Lyrics
|
This is a very underrated and beautiful song from Bob Seger.
I think this is a little story about the narrator catching up with an old friend of his. He's using poker as a metaphor for his friends' life. Back in the day, he was pretty cool and a lucky dude. I somewhat take this as his friend's luck with the ladies. 'The trick you said is to never play the game too long' maybe means he goes from girl to girl. He had his own way of doing things, and the narrator could've quite possibly idolized him. Now several years later, he ends up catching up to this old friend of his. The narrator has grown up and matured quite a bit. he's changed his ways and he sees his friend, who has still remained the same. This also somewhat makes the narrator sad, because the friend of his is still living his so-called charmed life. And all that the narrator could do was walk away, cuz nothing was left to say to him.
The tone of the song seems to be a sad tone, like feeling sorry for the guy....
But that's what I get out of it |

First off to all the people bitching about this being a Blink 182 selling out and being a poser song: Shut up! So what if people know them and don't know crap about them? It's annoying as hell at times, but you know what? They still make some pretty good music. But to be fair, every band has at least a few songs you hate of their(I hate "I Miss You" violently Blink-wise) Just enjoy their music. If you don't like them, then just calm down and move along. Indeed they are poppy, but sometimes bands like this are the gateway to changing their entire music taste, so please just get over it. I like all different types of music and I don't discriminate by bands that are "sellouts" and bands that are not. I just care about the product. Is it good or not? Okay, rant over.
This song is about a breakup, mainly. Just him dealing with it and saying 'well I guess this is growing up' and then him realizing that the chick will probably be going through the same thing as him. It happens all the time. |
