| Taking Back Sunday – Little Devotional Lyrics

I've heard, um, IDEAS that this song pertains to Michelle Nolan. There's rumours that Michelle cheated on Adam, along with the rumours that he cheated on her. So you could apply it to Michelle.
Another line that I think is the strongest supporter of this being about Michelle is the line of, "before your folks are up and lookin' for some answer." Folks = John. Obviously John and Michelle are close; they're in a band together. So I think it's obvious that he'd look out for her.
If the Straylight Run songs "Toolsheds and Hot Tubs" and "Now It's Done" are about Michelle and Adam, maybe Adam wanted to add his two cents. Who knows? Just another idea out there. |

Avert_Disaster, yeah, some songs tie into Straylight Run, but I'm going to guess not all of them do. You could interpret anything in a certain way that ties it together, but that doesn't mean it's the intention of the writer. I highly doubt that Taking Back Sunday would focus their WHOLE album on Straylight Run. Also, Fred's not really a part of that whole debate, and he contributed to song-writing along with Adam. Some songs are about Straylight Run, yes, others aren't. Simple as that. |

| Taking Back Sunday – A Decade Under The Influence Lyrics

I didn't read through every entry, but cat011087 made some great points near the top there. I just wanted to add one more thing to that analogy.
With the lines,
"You kept still until the long drive home
slept safe and close to the window
ive got a bad feeling about this
ive got a bad feeling about..."
I think it's more a response to Straylight Run's "A Slow Descent." I can't remember exactly why, but I guess because that song also draws on the long drives, and all that. Yeah, draw your own conclusions; I'm too tired to make my point. |

It could be about Adam, but what's not to say it's about someone completely different? You could apply it to any relationship Michelle may've had. Besides, the line you picked out and the way you analysed it, that's based on gossip. And while we're at it, I've heard rumours that Michelle also cheated on Adam.
I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm just saying that it's not definite. |

Huhubs, you do know that "Seventy Times 7" and "There's No 'I' In Team" were written in regards to Jesse and John, and their quarrels, right? Those were resolved, but up until John and Shaun leaving Taking Back Sunday, Adam and Jesse had no problems. It was after Straylight Run's formation that Jesse and Adam started having their own "quarrels," as you put it. But yeah, I don't think it's a response to Jesse; I think Brand New sings it during "Seventy Times 7" as a replacement for "There's No 'I' In Team," since the new(er) Taking Back Sunday is still singing that one. If that makes sense to anyone. |

What, nobody's made no references to how it could be related to how John / Shaun felt in Taking Back Sunday? :p Nah, I'd like to think that not every song is about TBS, and therefore, I like the idea that this one's about growing up, to put it simply. |

It's "Now It's Done." Since Michelle apparently writes her songs, while John writes his, I'm going to say this is a relationship song. It could be about Adam, but it could be about pretty much any relationship. I think, anyway. |

| Straylight Run – Existentialism on Prom Night Lyrics

I always think of existentialism as, basically, thinking about yourself, as opposed to something like altruism, where it's always about the other person. So, that can kind of tie in with what the_perfect_ending said. |

I hate to sound like I'm just being redundant in regards to all Straylight Run song, but this song is about the experiences in Taking Back Sunday. Yeah, a lot of the older SLR songs are written about that, but TBS was a big factor in regards to SLR. Anyway, back in the demo days, this song was also known as "The Machine Goes On Without Us." The machine = Taking Back Sunday (you'll see that reference in other places as well.) Just thought I'd throw that out there. |

Yeah, I agree Black and Blue about what a "hotel year" is. Since YC and TSL were on tour together, spawning this song, you can put two and two together, and figure that's what it means. *shrugs* |

You'd think the meaning behind this song would be pretty obvious, but let's think about bass player Pete . . . Now, I'm not sure what time periods he was in the band, so I won't make any judgments there, but just a connection to think about, if you so choose. |

Because nobody else has explained it, and I know I can get annoyed if there's no explanation, I'll go for this one.
Basically, it's about a girl that hurt Ryan [lead singer]. You can pretty much tell that from the lyrics. However, Sean [violinist] sings lead on this one, which is why it says lines such as, "Was it fun for you to watch HIM fall apart?" This song is sung to that girl, and the "him" in question is Ryan. So the backing vocals for that example being, "Watch me fall" is Ryan singing to that girl. Cool concept, I think.
*blinks* Wow, I so cannot explain. I tried. |
