I always thought that it was a bit more straightforward than that. Why can't the home by the sea be a haunted house by the seashore. The liner notes clearly show a picture of a house. One could argue that this is metaphore, but there is the possibility that the song is just about an abandoned house. |

"Me and Sarah Jane" is about a man who's so lonely that he fabricates a relationship with an imaginary woman. This woman is Sarah Jane. The narrator becomes obsessed with his fantasy until it ultimately leads to his suicide by drowning. |

The second part of the track ("Lurker") is about a submarine. I read on a fan site at one point that the fire mentioned in the song is not a projectile attack, but the reaction fire. Fire consumes oxygen and therefore depletes sailors' air supply faster. As for the "heart of stone", it has been suggested that it is the uranium core that powers a nuclear sub. |
