| And yes, I do know that at the time he wrote this song, his first child Ava was already 3. But to the best of my knowledge, he didn't write a song about it back when she was born. Since he's had this whole inner growth thing, maybe he's reflecting on it now... | |

Tom is definately a Christian and a strong one at that--that has been documented in several interviews. And this song is clearly referencing God and his healing power. But what makes Tom such a genius (aside from his IQ) is that his lyrics for all the songs on this record are multi-faceted. Most can be read and interpreted in more than one way. And I'm sure that was his intent. Is he singing about war? Yes. God? Yes. Family? Yes. His former bandmates? Yes. Love? Most certainly yes. It's a pretty amazing thing to be able to write like that. His English teacher would be so proud. |

Could Tom be singing about experiencing the birth of his first child? Every single word fits, especially the title (in my humble opinion of course). What a good daddy. < btw, the lyrics above are wrong. it should say "twist of your smile" not "taste of the smile" > |

Back to the point of this website... Yes, Tom did say this song was about his "friend's" failing marriage and it made him cry. And he also said re: Blink that at the end, their priorities were "mad different" and Mark and Travis wanted to keep touring and he wanted to spend time with his family. He might have felt he had been neglecting his family with Blink and maybe this song is to Jen, his wife. Maybe she and the kids are his "dearest friends". To further support my theory, go to the AvA site and watch the video. Tom's wedding band seems to be the star of the whole video. And every single other lyric in the song seems to fit. On behalf of all the wives and daughters in the world, way to get those priorities in order Tommy boy. |
