| Leonard Cohen – One of Us Cannot Be Wrong Lyrics

Sounds like a more sophisticated version of Hall and Oates' "Maneater." This woman overpowers all men who meet her, they end up frozen to death or killing themselves. It's a metaphor for the pain and suffering she brings. Yet, Cohen still wants to "come into the storm." There's some extremley intriguing elements to her, also. |

| Elvis Costello – (The Angels Wanna Wear My) Red Shoes Lyrics

I think this is Costello's nod to his cynicism. He used to be disgusted by the world, but now he tries to make fun of it, to stay sane. Now all the angels, idealistic people, find that their idealistic wings failed them. They want his red shoes, his cynicism and realistic outlook. |

| The Who – My Generation Lyrics

Some people here are raving stupid. Know you nothing of Townshend? He wasn't mocking his generation, the whole song is a praise and glorification. Looking back, I'm sure he doesn't see it the same way, but he was totally behind it when first composed. The stutter is an imitation of amphetamine side effects, adding cred to their message, not a mockey. The Who were just as doped up as their fans. |

| Big Star – The India Song Lyrics

I always thought this was the most beautiful song on the double album comp. It's an escapist song, Chilton's clearly not the happiest guy. Everyone feels like this sometimes, if anyone's ever heard Mica, by Mission of Burma, it's very similar. Well, Conley wanted to turn into a rock, rather than live in Inida, but it's still a matter of wishing for a way to ignore your problems, whether trhough travel, or transforming into a mineral deposit. |
