| Vanessa Carlton – Paint It Black (Rolling Stones cover) Lyrics

The song was written about trying to get over drugs and things. IT IS NOT about Vietnam, this is a Jagger/Richards song, they weren't into that at the time it was written. Depression/drugs/death of a loved one. (One of the stones' girlfreinds died about the time it was written, can't remember which). The Stones version is much better than Vanessa Carlton's, of course, that goes without saying, but she has had a good try at it, bless her. It's not the same without the sitar, the Stones just make it what it is, and that's all it can ever be. Her version is better than the terrible U2 version, which doesnt feature the opening sitar solo or the bolero rhythm at the end - the essence of the song. |
