| I feel that the core of this song is about the object of her affection not realizing the progression of love in a mature way. Love, as a behavior, starts out all passionate and all-consuming, but as everything else, it must slowly taper down. At that point, we may find ourselves questioning if we truly love and cherish the person we're with, even if we're not "burning with love" for them anymore. So, when Vanessa sings about "And I know things can't last forever. But there are lessons that you'll never learn. " It's basically her saying that, "I still love you. As long as you're in my life, I'm complete. If you'd just be open to a different definition of love, you'd see that." But, the guy doesn't see it, despite the fact that she still loves him. | |
