Although this is a song about bereavement (I think Jimmy wrote it about a friend of his who died of aids), for me it is about when I broke up with my girlfriend of a year. It's just such a tear jerker. I've been listening to it constantly since we broke up. It's an amazing song which transcends all boundaries of sexuality, creed, kin, nationality and touches the human spirit. The line "another man has lost a friend, I bet he feels the way I do" is so simple, but it strikes the chord of common humanity that we all share, the universal emotion of sadness and grief. |

I agree completeley with deepsouthern. Another Brick in the Wall was a song from the Pink Floyd Album, "The Wall", which chartered a Rock Stars descent into insanity. It was also a movie made by Pink Floyd. What is describes is how the guy builds a wall around himself and becomes isolated; school is just one of many things that become "bricks in the wall". Another brick is the fact that the guys dad died in WWII, leaving him with a fatherless upbringing, another is his wife cheating on him. All the bricks build up until he goes completely insane and locked in his own world. This song is definately the best one that I have heard by D-12, since each rapper is describing his own wall, and the various "bricks" that make up their individual prisons. I recommend anyone to buy "The Wall" on DVD, and you will see that the comparsion is striking. |

I have grown up listening to this song, and already had my own ideas and images drawn from it in my brain, but when I saw "Saving Private Ryan", a scene from that really reminded me of it. It is near the end were Corporal Upham is lying in a "trench", basically clawing the earth as a battle unfolds around him and german soldiers run by literally inches away. The emotions of this song must have been exactly the same as what the character must have been feeling at that time. |

The bit about the "western sun" maybe a reference to distribution of wealth. I went travelling recently to Romania, and the Western Sun certainly wasn't falling down on many of the people there, whilst in the developed world it does. |

This song is basically about yearning for love and wanting to find someone special. I reckon the lyric that says "miles and miles of nether worlds I roam" refers to the bittersweet journey through life and about how he continues roaming like this in search of love (how corny is that?!). Really though. I take comfort in it as it shows I'm not the only one roaming the nether worlds of singledom! |
