despite having a fairly unoriginal riff, i still think this song is pretty awesome. it's one of my favorites, i'd say. as far as the meaning goes, i couldn't even begin to explain half of the lyrics, but i'm fairly certain that a soul on fire would be somebody who is in love. this, to me, is one of many HIM songs about the futility of either love or life. |

"she was the sun shining upon the tomb of your hopes and dreams" is implying to me that 'he' has had his hopes and dreams killed before and that 'she' is about to make it happen again, "she was the wind, carrying in all the troubles and fears you for years tried to forget" is implying he had tried to forget the troubles and fears associated with being in love, but she brought it all back. love is the funeral of hearts, because love usually ends up with a broken heart. it's yet another HIM song about the futility of life/love. love can quite often be a gun separating two people, think romeo and juliet. |

i disagree with oldskoolpunker, this song is saying "keep on pretending our heaven is worth the waiting, keep on pretending it's alright", which is implying that though you might be pretending it's alright and will be worth it, it's not. love is a flame, it's dangerous, and can't be tamed, even though everybody tries, and they 'always end up in tears.' |
