I think this song is about how someone you love can make you see things through a child's eye. When your a kid your innocent and you haven't had bad experiences with people. To kids the world is a perfect place. The childhood refrences to bedtime stories, the smell of spring, and backyard pools is contrasted to the more adult refrences of fucked up friends and people that are more ice than nice. The girl he's singing to has had so much affect on him that hes able to see the world through innocent eyes again - like hes never been hurt. He wants her to feel this way too. She's dealing with her fucked up friends, but hes trying to tell her that she needs to take a step back at it and look at things with a different perspective and remember to love herself. Great song. |

Basically the song is about her feelings toward her ex's new girlfriend. Shes looking back on their relationship saying that things could have been done so much better ("we both realized it way too late") and how shes maybe feeling some jealously towards the new girl because shes still very much into her ex. |
