| Fugazi – Promises Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| it's depressing how little attention this band gets - i know that's that way it goes for not selling out, but still. people are so unwilling to go out and find things. anyway, there's nothing like shouting out "promises are shit" and "stupid fucking words" whenever i feel like it. love the bell knock in the beginning too. the way it should be is all we should have is our name and our word! | |

just an FYI: the word "Om" is used several times in Herman Hesse's book 'Siddhartha.' The book is about someone who leads a ascetic lifestyle, then gets caught up in a materialistic lifestyle and finally realizes the error of his ways and reverts back to his ascetic lifestyle. A great book. Anyway, the characters in the book used the word "Om" while they meditate and the characters explain to the reader that it means "perfection." Om - perfection. Herman Hesse writes most of his books based on eastern thought and the books are wonderful. rAIn |

everyone's reality is different and is based on your portfolio of experiences. Nature has tried as hard as possible and taken a very long time to make things in this world as diverse as possible, and the human race is too stuck in it's own egocentric world to realize that diversity is beauty. Instead we hate. Most humans need the comfort of a crowd to tell them what to do instead of trusting themselves. Unfortunately, that crowd is more interested in advancing itself with force, telling people what to think and having them blindly follow their country (READ IT: BLIND PATRIOTISM). With that said, I'd like to offer that the noose is about one's own struggle within (it could be because of killing someone while driving drunk). They say what you hate about someone else is really what you hate about yourself. If everyone was a little less assuming and didn't care as much what their neighbors were up to, then we'd be a lot kinder in general. But how can we make up such dastardly deeds to the people we've already lost in our lives. It's a reminder to always be thankful for what you have instead of constantly dwelling on what you don't have. This way you never have to choke yourself on your own noose. I think of it as talking to myself....that is, replacing the word "you" in the song with "I." So conquer yourself and be good to yourself so you can then start being good to other people. And then you won't have any regrets to the people you can no longer say you are sorry to. to each his own - RAiN |
