THIS is my favorite Zep song ever. The emotion and the power behind the music are unbelievable, while Plant's vocals just tear at you. I love it. Close behind it is Stairway to Heaven, which fans of the Led think is too cliche and overlpayed to be cool anymore for some dumbass reason. But yeah, this song is great. |

Well I think it kind of blends the relationship and Jesus/church meanings. It says that "the light that fueled the fire then" (the beginning of the relationship, or start of the church) "has burned a hole between us". And he mentions about lovers throughout the song. Near the end he says "Cold silence has a tendency to atrophy any sense of compassion... between supposed brothers... between supposed lovers" I'm pretty sure brothers is referring to brothers in christ. But I don't know for sure, but that's my personal take on it. |

I would just like to say that this and The Noose are in my opinion the best songs ever to be written!!! But I thought Howerdel wrote the lyrics? But then again I know there are others who study this a bit more than I do. Maynard is my hero... |

Personally I believe this song is definitely about suicide, and that the motive behind the suicidal thoughts is his fear and uncertainty about an unwanted pregnancy... He believes suicide is the only way out of his problems. "No real reason to accept the way things have changed." |
