| Creedence Clearwater Revival – Lodi Lyrics
| 21 years ago
|
When the great blues guitarman Freddie King covered this tune it was given the title "Lowdown in Lodi" probably because Freddie didn't realize Lodi was a location and sings "Stuck in lowdown again".
He keeps the basic melody but makes an overall impressionist interpretation of the song, conveying the "musician fallen on hard times" sentiments while straying from the original CCR lyrics. |

| The Kinks – Victoria Lyrics

I've always dug "Victoria" but I'd never paid attention to the lyrics. I thought it was just another 'girl's name' song (like Buddy Holly's "Peggy Sue", Beach Boys' "Barbara Ann" or the Monkees' "Valleri"). Was I surprised to see it's really about the legacy of British imperialism and the class system. A little research showed "Victoria" is from the Kink's "Arthur, or..." album (intended as score of a TV program that didn't work out, a rock opera that was overshadowed by the Who's "Tommy" ). |

This song was written by British blues/rock guitarist Peter Green. His leaner arrangement was a big UK single for the late 60s Fleetwood Mac. |

| Procol Harum – A Whiter Shade of Pale Lyrics

The lyrics contributed by Pablo (05-18-2004) listed under "Whiter Shade of Pale" instead of "A Whiter Shade.." are much better, but still not 100%. At least the mistranslated phrases are interesting. I'm guessing Psycho pr's version is either a revision by a different artist or some kind of a bad joke. |

| The Youngbloods – Darkness Darkness Lyrics

The guitar work is classic. "Darkness, Darkness" seems 180 degrees from the Youngblood's other laid-back stuff.
I've read that a new vocal rendition by Lisa Torban (who?) stands out on the soundtrack of "Ghosts of the Abyss" IMAX documentary. |

The true facts about "the pompitous of love" are available at www.gangster-of-love.com (the unofficial Steve Miller Band site). It does involve a different song called "The Letter" from 1954 by the Medallions - not the 60's Box Tops tune (covered by Joe Cocker) |
