I think this song is simply about fear and terror in all its shapes and forms. The calm regular arpeggios are disturbing in their inevitebility - Thom is singing frantically, especially at the end, but the arpeggios just go on and on regardless, and he can't influence them in any way. |

I've always this song was about manic depression - the feeling of euphoria during a manic phase, that you're on top of the world with a heightened feeling of self-importance and invincibility, but which is also false and you're prone to crashing to rock-bottom depression.
I mean listening to it, the lyrics could possibly be optimistic, but does Thom sound the least bit optimistic? (well actually does Thom ever sound optimistic...) |

I think there's also that other side to it, which is like sarcastically and bitterly saying "do you think I want to be unhappy and depressed?!" when people say that depression is something you can just get out of by cheering up. |

It's such a beautiful song, really lush production, the way the vocals seem to be alone in a great empty space. All Suede's songs have this perfect balance between sleazy sexy wit and poetic romance. It seems so romantic when he cries out "I don't care if you're black or blue", but the "me and the stars" sounds kinda cockney and casual. And there're these little delicate runs of piano notes which is balance the song to perfection. |

Apparently it's about the Silent Twins, these sisters who found it impossible to communicate with anyone apart from each other. THey wouldn't talk for years but after one twin died, the other suddenly started talking and cummunicating like a normal person. It is SUCH an amazing song |
