"I want to photograph you with my mind To feel how I feel now all the time" I think we all feel like that sometimes! Also, i love that thing she does with her voice on the words 'Say', 'Stay' and 'Forever'. Completely impossible for anybody except her! |

| princessariel56, i had never thought about that lyric that way before! I'd always assumed the song was written while Jewel was on the road, touring, away from the person she loved, so that the lyric was a direct reference to the physical distance between them, but i really like that idea. I still think jewel meant it the other way but your interpretation gave the lyric a whole new meaning for me. Thanks! | |

ignoring all of the above, my opinion about the song is that it is about a person that is worried about cheating on their partner. The sirens come from Greek mythology where they were beautiful women who would sing to sailors to tempt them towards the shore where the sailors would crash their ships and die. What Thom is saying is that, just because you think you might have some feelings for someone else, they might just be you mistaking the excitement of a new experience for real love (just cos you feel it, doesn't mean its there). and so in this way, you should ignore thya sirens and steer away from the rocks that promise only certain disaster. the stuff about broken branches refers, i think, to the lies that the cheating partner is contsantly having to say to cover up his / her affair, and the problems with making the story consistant. |

I thought this was less about God, and more about someone who's partner has died and gone to heaven, but written from the perspective of the partner that has died. About how, although there is still love there, there is just a place where they physically cannot be together. A very sad song but with a hopeful kind of twist insomuchas, when the living partner dies and the house falls in the sea, there wil be no more lies. (the lies refering to the fact that they can feel each other's love , but not hold each other). hmm, maybe? |

well, i was going to try and comment on tyhe meaning of this song, but being as no-one else has bothered, i don't think i will! erm, just a kinda geeky drummer question (being, as i am, a drummer myself and long time fan of Danny Carey!). The bit in the middle of the song, starting, "feel the rhythm to feel connected". does anyone know what it actually is that Danny is playing there cos i can play it, i just don't understand it. I ask only because i feel sure that with a beat as complex as that, it must have some relation to the meaning of the song somehow. Maybe the numbers thing that has been touched on above, being as the bass drum and the hi hats appear to be in different time signatures? Anyone? |

"If you're lying in bed with the pride of a lion" Just a thought. I love the way he's used the words here. Bearing in mind that a group of lions is, i believe, called a Pride of lions, this may mean someone in bed many other people, which could well make the person in question feel very proud indeed! What you think? |
