when i saw him play this at newport folk fest this summer, he said "after 25 years i'd be used to the spin" instead of 22, which makes me think he wrote it a few years ago. i could be wrong though. also, i've heard him say "you may be offended, I know i was afraid" instead of "and you may be". it seems he didn't feel the same way as when he wrote the song. does anybody know where i could find the guitar part when the trumpet plays? i can't find it anywhere. |

"If you love something, give it away" that line describes what i felt when i like the same girl as my friend. i knew he liked her and deserved her more than i did, so i had to "give her away", so to speak. |

i totally agree with you Seanie! thats the exact same thing i was thinking. it is so much harder to say something in person than in a song. the great thing about this song is that it's not to literal. i like songs where u have to think about the meaning of it... |

this song is pretty literal. Its about when he meets someone and he knows they like him too. i don't think the chorus is about sex. thats too un-NFG. i think it's just he's nervous and he likes the relationship and how he doesn't know what's gonna happen next. The theme of being nervous is also used in "anticipation ran through my bones " so its pretty obvious. |
