I think this number is a protest to conformity expecially in the American culture. Brian has loudly voiced his isn't always proud to be an American and is very anti-war. And I really think he isn't a conformist. I definatly think this song is a protest to conformity. |

I've heard that this song is about a gothic, heroin addicted, homosexual in Luxemburg. I remember Brian saying that is the worst thing to be there. The "gothic" part of it is when it says, "Chooses his clothes to match his pallid complexion" Pallid means really light or pale. The drug and homosexual part of it is obvious. If you really think about the lyrics you can really put it all together. |

I could be wrong but I remember reading somewhere that Brian dated some chick who was an actress..."You never were an actor." So that could have something to do with it. It could be more of a personal song to him. But, I could be wrong about this. |
