It really is songs with lyrics and titles like these that make the Deftones so interestingly unique. The fact that their lyrics arent easy to define and understand. Truly what makes the Deftones my favorite band is the fact that the music can be taken into thought and concluded in meaning to what the specific individual fan wants it to be. Bravo Deftones. P.S. - I have no clue what this song is about but I love it!!! |

| To me, this song is a song that describes the feelings every one of us as humans gets whenever we listen to music. Music, whether thrash-hardcore or religious, is genuine to our happiness. In a way, we all become numb, especially when we hear exactly what we truly want. When this happens, nothing is more perfect in life. All in all, this song is about how perfect to all of us music can get. | |

Obviously this song can show religious implement within the text, showing how easily exploitable religion is which causes horrific outcomes in life. I.E. people note this song to describe suicide bombers, terrorists, or islamic fanatics. Though, I believe there is more to this song than just the cut and dry appearance these lyrics show. To me, this song is about music and fame that bands experience throughout their careers as entertainers. "Painting the street in white" otherwise, starting from scratch, musicians enter into the lifestyle of rock and roll that consume their careers until their deaths. Whether famous or not, "death" being the "standard breach for a complex prize," many musicians become posthumously famous. Whether bad or good, bands enter the music scenario with the support from few or many people. They think it is "sweet" while many are "proud" of their course of action taken in life, hoping success for the musicians. With that in mind, they have an obligation to not only enjoy what they do best but also keep themselves in good welfare by performing brilliantly, keeping their rythem and style unique enough to protect their own creatively "indigenious sound". As the song moves on, I've noticed throughout the all the concerts I have attended in my life that fans flock to "worship" the band and their music, sucking up all they hear and wanting more. As they follow the music, the fans only want more and more to be played. As the careers of bands progress, they begin to notice the crowds "swell", thus bringing in more of a fan base to "worship" their "play." Seeing the bands as the "animals" who "make their way through the crowd" to perform, their sole duty is to perform, entertain, and satisfy, hoping that many out in the world will hear them for "miles". Showing appreciation for the fans, whether they are dedicated or temporary, every "feint smile" influences the progression of the bands music career. As time goes on, with fame and fortune piling, the crowds go "wild" and all the attention from the media, or "cameras" make the musicians "seasick" from media exposure. Showing that with fortune comes fame, fame eventually burns itself out and, for every band, the time of their ending has to come. This is mentioned through the car bombs "tick ticks", which is the ticking of the inevitable end of each bands end. In the end, whether their career was important or not, influencial or not, successful or not, every musician goes through this cycle. So, this is basically what I see when I listen to the songs lyrics. Whether correct or not, this is just another interpretation to see what you all think. |
