Built to Spill – Big Dipper Lyrics 18 years ago
To me it is about science. Take something incredible (like the stars) and you can go about explaining it in 2 different ways. The difficult way, which is immensely challenging and requires adjustment of previous illogical rationale about the way the world works, or the apathetic, in which for whatever reason you don't have the energy to think about "what made it true". Chemicals, drinking, and loneliness may contribute to not wanting to know how or why the world works like it does.

The Postal Service – We Will Become Silhouettes Lyrics 21 years ago
Is this a Postal Service cover of the Shins or vice versa? Either way both versions are beautiful, and made me further appreciate both bands (no matter who covered who)

The Postal Service – The District Sleeps Alone Tonight Lyrics 21 years ago
Res Ipsa interpretation is what I mostly feel is right
But sometimes I see the song as a guy who is alienated from this girl he loves because her mind has gone to such a different, dark, and lonely place. He tries to talk to her, but he's just a visitor, who can no longer communicate with her at this detached level. The lyrics don't directly say that, it's just what I imagine when listening to the mood of the song.

Built to Spill – Still Flat Lyrics 21 years ago
I think still flat is like a person who still thinks the earth is flat instead of round, not literally, but like how they were raised/background makes them think that everything is right just because they were like told that at birth or something, and automatically accept it and thinkeveryone else is wrong, because it would be heretic to think otherwise aka refusal to step beyond what you know, because it actually takes "dedication" to do this, deep thought. this song reminds me of a kid I know who refuses to believe in evolution because of their upbringing, and chooses to totally ignore/dismiss any facts without even thinking about them, but still tries to tell everyone "where its at". Still as flat as the days before copernicus.

Weezer – The Good Life Lyrics 21 years ago
i used to think it was "school is crap i've hAad it!!!!" and i was like fuck yea!! but screw this crap is still cool
I think its like looking in the mirror and oh my god? what happened to me/what have i become? everything sucks and its my fault, but i want to go back to the way i used to be, innocent kind of, and not wanting to feel anything, cant fully explain/elaborate on what i get out of it, just when you listen to the song you know exactly what its saying, and everyline just nails it into you. Awesome.

Blink-182 – I Miss You Lyrics 21 years ago
These have to be some of the most meaningless, trite lyrics ever, and i have to agree with mcfly and vendetta about how blinks just using darkness or whatever to try to be cool and sell more albums and such, well everyone knows that old argument. The spider thing is not a metaphor for anything, its just trying to be mysterious and the whole thing is just bullshit. yeah, the song sounds good, catchy or whatever (to some), but its all just ughhh, you know, "manufactured". Sorry, im not trying to come on here and rip into something someone might like, but come on! Don't get all emotionally connected to a song thats so insincere and empty, and don't even try to defend. if you like it, cool, just know theres no more than a onedimensional way of liking it, aka no depth

Built to Spill – Distopian Dream Girl Lyrics 21 years ago
so, um back to "what does this song mean to you" or "me" i guess
I think its kind of about screw all that stupid shit and people who don't get you or understand you, in an apathetic kind of tone. Like the step dad and the wife, who don't really care or think about anything that "penetrates their comfort zone" And you gotta just keep on living, because things are only as real as you make them and how you percieve them, and no one really cares, but for the one person who does you'd give your life for them because they make it all real. I know this is interpretation is wrong, but i like to think of it kind of that way just from my own experiences.
My favorite line is this:
If it came down to your life or mine / I would do the stupid thing / And let you keep on living
What does anyone else think? Besides going in circles arguing about music?
