Hanson – Yearbook Lyrics 21 years ago
for some reason when i was in 5th grade and hanson came out, when i listened to this song, an image of a kid getting beaten up near a dumpster ALWAYS came to my mind. i don't really know. but, to me, johnny seems to have tried to kill himself and now is at a mental hospital. mostly because of the "there's a lying in your silence" -- i imagine all the adults and teachers staying quiet about what happened because it's too tragic for them to want to admit. and, the speaker feels guilt: "i wonder if we're to blame." they mention they didn't really talk to him, they just all think of him and wonder. also! there's a shadow of the mental hospital within the school: "it's quiet in the halls, but i hear echoing off the walls." however, i still the song is so haunting because we really don't know. the lyrics just pop this image into my head. it's not factual for me, either. that's why i like it so much! :]
