The beat that they keep up in this song is so great, it sticks out in this and a few others and I really makes it amazing |

The chorus is where this song really hits. The layering of voices makes it so nice. And who can't feel the depths of the ocean while being consumed by desire. |

but he says "you know it ain't the money girl, there never was money"
that makes me think it's friends with benefits. because wanting to sleep with people is hard-coded into the human psyche. |

| Minus the Bear – Double Vision Quest Lyrics
| 17 years ago
|
One of my favorites from the album.
The opening riff is great, then the other instruments worm their way in, and combine up to the first chorus and it ends up so satisfying. then the verse comes back and works the best guitar of the entire album.
it keeps going then a big rock out. then a really really good breakdown with the synth and the rhythmic off beat guitars and badass bass. after a good rock out a great breakdown puts you in a good place. and that's what this song does.
and all the words are filling in the vocal space. it's all about the music, with little meaning behind them the focus is on the fucking bad ass song.
this one really is the best on the album |

Until you've been out in the country at night in the complete darkness there is no way to understand this song. The sound of coyotes and wolves howling is an experience in itself. I think it really is a tribute to nature's sounds while man is fast asleep. |

I think no flashlight is so good because phil addresses the world in such a matter of fact way of speaking while being whimsical at the same time. There's such a strong nature vibe playing through the entire album. it takes you out of the city and puts your own situation into the wilderness. |

| Mount Eerie – (2 Mountains) Lyrics

|
I think this one is about one mountain. During the day it's a tourist spot or a well known landmark. Then in the evening and night it's completely alien. It's unrecognizable in the lack of light blocking the light from the moon, impeding on the night sky. |

| Amy Winehouse – Just Friends Lyrics

|
I'm relating to this song because an X wants to be friends. The problem is that we still have chemistry so friend time always turns out to be more than that. But she has a boyfriend. the line "It's never safe for us, not even in the evening 'cos I've been drinking" works pretty good for us. |

| Make Believe – Anything/Sell That Thing Lyrics
| 18 years ago
|
I did this song by ear because it's so hard to find lyrics for bands like make believe. And i did it because i know this song is about the evolution debate. The album cover is a fish with legs with a caption that says "of course". If you look at the lines:
We're each free to choose between two sides
The first side says we're each free to choose between two sides
The other side of these two sides that we're each free to choose betweens the side that says what other side
It's basically the intelligent design people saying, "hey teach the controversy in classrooms across the US." while the other side of these two sides which consists of scientists, says "What controversy?" addressing evolution. This has happened recently in kansas and other bible belt states. it is good to see a modern band addressing the attempted attribution of pseudo-science in our classrooms. |

| Danger Doom – Bada Bing Lyrics

The start is nice in the first 4 lines but then he slips up a little bit and i can't listen to the rest. I don't really understand the rhythm of the rest. It seems like he's just saying stuff without listening to the beat. Rap is hard to listen to. |

I love the sax solo in this song so very much. I kinda don't like this song's lyrics, I feel he puts down intellectualism. He may not feel that practical scientific thinking might be something that has to be learned. Maybe people need to told who they are or who they can be, but he seems to describe responsibility as a government complex. The fact he needs to have someone tell him who he is ruins the song for me. |

I love how this band examines the darker parts of relationships. Jealousy and vengeance and such. And they do it without reverence to the people the songs are written about. It's stalker music and it's a great new take on music. |

Rocky sings about his temper a lot. it's interesting to see him comment on the violence of men. This song's about the guys that are violently protective of their sisters/mothers. There might not be good reason but they feel that they need to protect these girls from anyone. |

| The Dismemberment Plan – Sentimental Man Lyrics
| 19 years ago
|
|
As an athiest i understand most of what he's talking about. the whole question of being a sentimental man comes from religious people accusing atheists of being immoral jerk-offs. We have morals just like everybody else, we just make them for ourselves instead of having it all laid out for us. And i think the forth stanza is supposed to be sarcastic, playing on the expectations of religion and flaking on goals you make for yourself, something EVERYONE does. athiests just see the world as it is without adding some crazy element into it to explain things. |

| The Dismemberment Plan – Time Bomb Lyrics

This song seems like it's about the jealousy, pride, and depression left after a breakup. The singer knows whoever he's singing to will remember him when things get bad. then he gets jealous of her "newest seed". he realizes his hostility and that "there's no going back" and it's not worth it. then depression sets in "A cry for help, yeah, a warning to stay away
A burning, a blinding, a bleaching deathmask white, yeah" |
