creepy good or creepy bad? I'm curious. |
| Kate Bush – Aerial Lyrics | 14 years ago |
everything you just said here? DITTO. the first time I heard that part of the song, I sat there the whole time, scratching my head in puzzlement and waiting for it to get back to the awesomeness that is the entirety of the rest of the song. |

| Marilyn Manson – Suicide Is Painless (Mash cover) Lyrics | 15 years ago |

"He wanted to die cause he thought he sucked as a dentist." BZZT! wrong. he wanted to die because he thought he was no longer capable of performing sexually. |

| The Beatles – Please Please Me Lyrics | 15 years ago |
"come on the beatles were just starting out and they were young, this song is sincere and innocent." *snicker!* I'm sorry to inform you that MOST young men, especially men who are the age that the Beatles were when this song hit the airwaves, are pretty driven by sex, whether they act on it or not. now, sure, they may not always be fixated on it to the point of sleeping around with everything that moves, but the Beatles themselves will say (and have said in the past) that they had their share of groupies that slept with them before they'd even written this song. yes, this song may have been written with sincere and innocent lyrics, but I'm more than sure there was plenty of ribbing and joking about "heh heh, 'please please me' indeed!" while it was being written. seriously--back then (and, thankfully, now as well) you couldn't sing a song about "please return the favor and give me oral sex!" and expect it to get any airplay. |

| Dwight Yoakam – Guitars, Cadillacs Lyrics | 17 years ago |
that movie is EXACTLY why I know of it too. AWESOME. :D and I agree--T2 is most CERTAINLY one of the greatest films ever made. not to get off on a ramble about a movie on a website about song meanings... I'd have to say that the meaning of this song is, in short, serious heartbreak. so much so that very few things anymore make you happy. |
| Nine Inch Nails – The Four of Us Are Dying Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think this song is amazing, and has a wonderful sense of tension ("oh crap... we're going to die.") in it. HOWEVER... I strongly recommend AGAINST listening to it if you're in a heightened state of anxiety or in the middle of a panic attack--it'll only make things worse. (I speak from experience...) that being said, this is a great song to listen to in general. absolutely breathtaking. |
| Nine Inch Nails – 1,000,000 Lyrics | 17 years ago |
"Folks, he's returning to a mental state he didn't want to go back to. Or maybe its something he never escaped..." I think you're onto something here. however, I also think that this song is him expressing his frustrations over how, while he's clean and sober now, life STILL FREAKING SUCKS. depression doesn't go away easily (if at all). coming off of drugs can help you stop actively wanting to die, but yet you still hurt badly enough to want to put yourself out of your misery in some way. I get the feeling that he's saying, as others have said, "well... I'm clean and sober, I'm a lot healthier now than I was ten years ago... *looks around...* NOW what? life still sucks." and he's very, very frustrated. |

| Nine Inch Nails – 01 Ghosts I Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I'm actually glad someone put up the songs on Ghosts on here. this one, though, doesn't really inspire much thought to me. it sounds, in terms of excitement, like the opening credits to a relatively sedate movie. |
| Nine Inch Nails – 17 Ghosts II Lyrics | 17 years ago |
just the way this song builds up and then hits that peak before fading away--this, combined with the picture that comes with it, makes me think, "DAWN BREAKS!" like it's a brand new day and anything that we were upset, depressed, scared or angry (etc) about can be fixed and taken care of. this is one of the greatest songs on the entire collection, in my opinion. I can't believe nobody's commented on this. |
| Everclear – I Will Buy You A New Life Lyrics | 17 years ago |
... and yet for all of those things that money can buy you, it can't buy you love for yourself. only things. shallow, temporary things that will break or be taken or eaten or otherwise stop working or be of no use to you when you're dead. and you'll still be miserable if you don't love yourself. regardless of all the fancy crap you own or eat or smoke or shoot up. |

| Tori Amos – Almost Rosey Lyrics | 18 years ago |
the View? that's an interesting interpretation... o_O I've always felt like this song was written while I was having a Very Bad Day, and she just pretty much put my thought processes to music. of course, I know that's not exactly it, but it's still encouraging to listen to the song and just kind of "feel" like Tori's got an arm around my shoulders and is saying "it'll be okay." also, for those of you who are curious, Tori actually talked about this one (and a few other ADP songs) on the Quicktime Tour page: http://www.sonymusic.com/artists/ToriAmos/quicktime/ |
| Tori Amos – Bouncing Off Clouds Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Tori herself has said that this song came to her after a bad period (month, she said), and the song pretty much just took her by the hands and said, "would you just make it easy, you silly person? make it easy and you'll be okay." | |
| Tori Amos – Big Wheel Lyrics | 18 years ago |
the MILF part, first of all, was inspired by her niece who essentially said to her one day, "Tori, you're a milf. start acting like it!" secondly, I think she's saying something along the lines of, "look, bub, I may be forty-something and a mother, but I'm still hot. you can't deny that. so STFU now, kthxbai." |
| Tori Amos – Devils and Gods Lyrics | 18 years ago |
"Devils and gods, they are you and I, Devils and gods, safe and inside" that line says to me, in a MUCH less direct manner, what I've heard other people say before: "we are our own gods, we are our own devils." that's kind of what comes to my mind with this song. it seems that Tori is saying with it, "we are our own gods and devils, so why are people out there making war and blaming everybody else (including everybody else's gods and devils) for it instead of taking responsibility?" |
| Tori Amos – Fat Slut Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| my personal view on it is that she's pretty much got whoever she's snarling at by the balls, but other than that (Pip's the confrontational one), she's griping about being called a "fat slut", and essentially saying, "well look, if you feel that way about me, then go stick it in somewhere else cuz you sure as hell ain't getting any from me!" | |
| Kanye West – Through The Wire Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| shadowwiththeeyes, I just KNEW Henry Rollins was hardcore too. love the guy. didn't know that detail about him, though, golly. thanks. :D | |
| Nine Inch Nails – Sanctified Lyrics | 18 years ago |
from Katatonia: "no offense to the greatest band ever but this love/drog theme so many artists are singing about is totally lame. why can't they sing about coffee instead?" oh, some of 'em do, don't worry. the difference is coffee is accepted in society, even though it's as good for your heart as speed or cocaine, while the other illegal drugs are modern society's proverbial "forbidden fruit" and thus, far more interesting for the general population. |
| The Jackson 5 – ABC Lyrics | 18 years ago |

Yournewgod is just tryin' to be funny, you guys.. and get a rise out of the fans who will, no doubt, get angry at him. best to ignore the trolls when they're trolling and smile at the little children asking for attention. |
| Tori Amos – Black-Dove (January) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
um Hotel-Paper, unless you're using the medical term for a miscarriage (which is "spontaneous abortion"), I think you might be a bit confused--Tori has never had (or at least admitted to having) an abortion. she has, however, had three miscarriages. the first two happened before she released the album that this song is on, and the third one happened in 1999. |
| Tori Amos – '97 Bonnie and Clyde (Eminem cover) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
"I find it hilarious that you all have carbon copy opinions" hmm... you might want to re-read some of those "carbon copy" opinions. they're not ALL the same, shockingly enough. |
| OutKast – Chonkyfire Lyrics | 18 years ago |
what I want to know is what in the world was the point in what sounds like an award show acceptance speech turned into a rant being put onto the end of the song, and what the hell were they saying, and WHY? the rambling about demo tapes went completely over my head and I'm seriously curious. |
| Nine Inch Nails – Complication Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I love how this song, throughout, sounds to me like something you'd hear in a Final Fantasy game. especially in the beginning.. and including when he starts screaming and screaming. it sounds very airy and digital at the same time to me. quite nice. now as for what the song means.. well.. I get the impression, from the music, that it's.. "la de da.. another nice day.." and then when he starts screaming, it's.. "oh crap. snags everywhere. help!" |
| Nine Inch Nails – Ripe (With Decay) Lyrics | 20 years ago |
a beautiful, BEAUTIFUL song.. I think we're all able to agree with that much. but when you have a family member--or a cherished pet, even--that's dying.. and you hear it.. it can REALLY make you upset. (I speak from experience) |
| Tori Amos – Sleeps With Butterflies Lyrics | 20 years ago |
stoolhardy: I used to get a little confused on the "kiss away night" part before the "but I believe I'm worth coming home to". it took me a while, but I think, despite the line breaks, the line is "but I believe I'm worth coming home to kiss away night". in other words, (my take, of course) she feels like, even if he roams, he should come home to her. no matter what. |
| Tori Amos – Parasol Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Moonsine1220 said: "I wonder what Tori must of been going through when she wrote this song...the death of her father maybe?" her father is still alive--her brother is the one who died. but that said, what you suggested could very well be the case--the emotions that you go through when hearing tragic news about the death of a loved one, for example.. or perhaps the equally soul-shaking news of someone (a lover or best friend) deciding that they no longer want anything to do with you. I always looked at it as a woman who is being forced to leave her home for whatever reason.. standing outside of her house and just sitting for hours, trying to rationalize what's happened before actually getting up and leaving. |
| Bubba Sparxxx – Ugly Lyrics | 20 years ago |
he certainly didn't sound like a big fat white redneck boy when I heard this song on the radio for the first time. so imagine my pleasant surprise when on MTV, I saw a big ol' boy who looked more suited to country, rapping his football playin' heart out. yes, I like the song. it's good. no, I don't own the album. |
| Tori Amos – The Beekeeper Lyrics | 20 years ago |
it's about her mother. her mother is alive and all right NOW, but at the time that the song came to Tori, her mother had suffered (and barely survived from) a cardiac arrest. I'll quote her answer from an internet chat that she did.. "At first the melody would come and walk with me through the mists in North Cornwall England. I would take this melody back to the Hammond Organ, the B3. I would sit and play with this for hours. Soon I began to have to deal with my mother's heart condition and she survived a cardiac arrest in September. Because of this I began thinking about the life cycle and that dying is part of the life cycle. Even though I realized this, logically, I couldn't accept the idea of losing my mother emotionally. The song started to become clearer as the days went by and I began to realize that the Beekeeper that had taken my character in the song, to death, to plead for my mother's life, the Queen Bee in the song, little did I know that although my mother would survive and that death did pass her by it would be the last time I saw my brother when I went back to stand by my mother's bedside. So life/death has it's own rhythm and it's own rhyme. The Beekeeper really acts as a Shaman, similar to the Medicine Man in the Native American tradition. We have the Beekeeper in the Celtic tradition." |
| Tori Amos – The Beekeeper Lyrics | 21 years ago |
*cough..* her brother is the one who died. her father is very much alive and healthy. the song really grappled with me too because it more or less shoved the issue of death and my fear of other people dying into my face where I couldn't ignore it since it's such a beautiful song. I eventually was able to come to terms with it enough to be able to listen to the song without getting emotional, which is good since I love it so much. |
| Marilyn Manson – Tainted Love (Soft Cell cover) Lyrics | 21 years ago |
ooooOOOOoooh, making handy use of the cut-and-paste option, are we, colin1313? anyway, yeah, this song is very good. really very commercial too (I'll agree with that) but hey just cuz it's kinda uber-commercial doesn't mean it has to be crap, does it? I say no. yay for Manson! |
| Marilyn Manson – Cake And Sodomy Lyrics | 21 years ago |
from diana161: "doesnt sodomy mean sex w/ animals????" no, it means anal sex. and especially after reading the autobio, I've always imagined this song to be about hypocritical Christian televangelists as well as just plain ol' money-grubbers, more or less. Pat saying "don't sin. gimme money." and a guy greasing up and saying "want some of this? gimme money." and back and forth and back and forth. |
| Adam Sandler – The Chanukah Song Lyrics | 21 years ago |
Adam Sandler said, before performing this on a Christmas episode of SNL, "growing up, we only had songs like "dreidel dreidel dreidel" to sing during Chanukah while all my other friends had Christmas carols like "Jingle Bell Rock"." not a direct quote, but close enough. that's why he wrote this song. so that the Chanukah celebratin' kids would have something more to sing. now isn't that sweet? |
| Limp Bizkit – Nookie Lyrics | 21 years ago |
I used to dig Limp Bizkit.. Significant Other was a good album. so let's get to the song. it seems obvious to me that the story of the song is as follows: Fred falls in love. (and from what I can see, when the poor boy falls, he falls HARD.) Fred's object of affection cheats on him. Fred finds out and is rightly pissed. she tries to make up to him by making him cookies. Fred, hurt, says "fuck off, I just did it for the nookie" and rejects the peace offering. honestly, I think Fred is a big softie (not an insult, an observation.) who gets hurt too easily by people, thus putting on his "macho and angry" mask to hide the fact that he DOES *shock and amazement* cry about things like every other human being does. and I think that's why so many people hate him--because he's not letting the world see the real him, but the fake "MACHO ALL THE TIME" side. (come on, Fred, it's okay to cry!) |
| Kanye West – Through The Wire Lyrics | 21 years ago |
I think why this song is such a big hit is the passion coming through Kanye and into the song. the words are a little difficult to understand, but when you listen to the song knowing that he did it with his JAW WIRED SHUT, you tend to forgive him for that. now THAT's about as hardcore as anybody can get. |
| 1 Giant Leap – My Culture Lyrics | 21 years ago |
I watched the documentary about the making of the 1 Giant Leap album. I haven't gotten the chance to get my grubby little hands on the album yet, but what I've heard, I ADORE. the lyrics in this song definitely speak out to me as telling the world to, no matter what you do, NEVER forget your roots. |

| Marilyn Manson – Count to Six and Die (The Vacuum of Infinite Space Encompassing) Lyrics | 21 years ago |
I've heard this song and the majority of the Holywood album.. it fits as an album closer, but being a proud owner of the Guns God & Government DVD, I think it would also be a fabulous album opener. |
| Marilyn Manson – Antichrist Superstar Lyrics | 21 years ago |
what strikes me as funny about all this is how much anger and confusion and fussing can be stirred up over just one little SONG. and speaking as a person who grew up in the Baptist church, I have a question.. if God is so loving, then why would He be so *EAGER* to send us to Hell--a place of ETERNAL DAMNATION--for committing a sin? I have NEVER understood the contradiction in that. now.. being punished with Hell for a few years or even a few millenia, I can understand. but ETERNITY?? |

| Mystik Spiral – Ow, My Face Lyrics | 21 years ago |

isn't the line "soul's waves of grain?" anyway, this song rocks.. and it fits for a lot of people too. great stuff. if Trent and Mystik Spiral were real people (and not paint on paper, har har) I would definitely attend as many of their shows as possible. they are that good. |
