Incubus – Here In My Room Lyrics 21 years ago
Now how is talking about sex take away from anything at all?

The story, if followed through literally, is that the narrator has a one-night stand, essentially. Well, maybe not one-night, but we're not going in the future here. The point is that he met this girl for the first tonight and had sex with her because he was bored.

See, people think that it somehow takes away from Incubus's meaning if that's what it is about, but when you think about it, isn't that exactly how Brandon Boyd would approach the subject? He has a negative outlook on the social world, and although love is something he obviously believes it, wouldn't it be along his lines to use beautiful and meaningful language to describe something utterly meaningless?

Well, I think that's pretty much going in the same direction as what I was saying, but that's a good idea. Basically he's saying put him through hell, because it won't matter anymore. Thanks for the insight.

Yellowcard – Ocean Avenue Lyrics 21 years ago
If you think Yellowcard sold out for becoming popular, you're stupid.

It's a stupid debate, because in the entire scope of things Yellowcard will not be remembered as some band that influenced rock history, and whether they sold out or not will be inconsequential.

Now, you can hate Yellowcard for having unoriginal and cliche lyrics, and no one can fault you for it.

Anyway.

Bands like Yellowcard shouldn't be on this website. Now, wait before you start screaming for hating on your favorite band (!!!1@ONE LOL!!). I happen to like Yellowcard. However, every Yellowcard song that I have encountered has been 100% completely on the surface and literal. There is no point to try and decipher these cryptic words of wisdom, because they mean exactly what they say.

Now, this isn't necessarily a bad thing. Even though I prefer lyrics that actually say something, sometimes you need some mindless banter to get you through the day. So if you're going to hate me, go ahead. But just realize that any interpretation is useless, and the same goes with any "they're on MTV so they suck now" debate.

Incubus – Southern Girl Lyrics 21 years ago
Ha, I live in the bottom of LA too, juliegray, what parish?

This album is too metaphorical, I think, for it just to be about a girl from the South who he wants. I agree it's about a girl, yes. But southern most likely represents something deeper than hometown.

Incubus – Talk Shows on Mute Lyrics 21 years ago
Incubus has been making songs like this for awhile, though kind of sparingly. "Idiot Box" had the same (general) theme. The only reason it's being attributed to a political scope is because that is what is dominating the American mindset. And honestly, let it. Songs can take different meanings to fit your perception, so if people want it to be anti-Bush because they ARE anti-Bush, let them. Just call them a moron under your breath.

Eve 6 – Hey Montana Lyrics 21 years ago
So this girl grew up in the big state of Montana, right? And she wants to be a movie star. Yeah, that's the gist of it. But I like getting into line by line translation.

Hey montana take your daughter back,
From the bathrooms of Angeles Vall.
- That's basically saying that the girl needs to go back to her roots, her old time home is more her style.

She believes in destiny
Her names always misspelled
- Destiny, as in this she believes she was meant to be in pictures. However, she's not well known, or given respect.

Waitressing to pay the rent
Drinks to quell the smell
Of people breathing way too close,
Folks who don't mean well
- This is saying that she needs some kind of job before making it big, and waitressing is it. But while doing it she has to deal with the bad people in Los Angeles/Hollywood -- the skeezes.

No one sees the color of your eyes
No one sees your smile
No one knows the secrets that you hide
No one sees you cry
- Another testament to her unknown...ness. She feels that she has all of this talent and potential, but no one is able to see what she sees in herself. The last line is a result of these oversights.

She parks her car two blocks away, from apartment 15A
She walks with somber in her step and scores along the way
- Back to the poor situation, with an undoubtedly shitty apartment. Now, the scoring part: that's kind of tricky. Either she scored some drugs or had sex with someone on the way home, though I'm leaning towards the drugs part. It's more fashionable, after all.

Blue's your hue you tiny thing Dropping patrons wine
Singing to you own sad song
Two feet stuck in the mire
- First line, she's depressed. The other parts are basically referring back to her job, her depression, and her inability to get out of it.

Hey montana take your daughter back
It's clear she needs your care
These bustling
Streets are icy veins of a beast who snuffs her prayer
- Hey, girl who's trying to make it in Hollywood? Go home, because this city is chewing you up.

Her bones and the truth show through
- I'm thinking she died, somehow, someway, or at least lost all hope.

Alkaline Trio – Tuck Me In Lyrics 21 years ago
This song. Hm. Let's see.

Well, I feel that the guy and his girl have been through so much bad shit that the guy has already given up. Thusly, anything that happens afterwards is just extra, he doesn't care anymore since he's already passed that point. On the same hand, he's saying to do anything to him, she can make his life ultimate misery and it won't matter, because "my skin went sour long ago."

Alkaline Trio – Trouble Breathing Lyrics 21 years ago
And there's a different take on suicide sometimes too. When you're a generally depressed person, which I'm sure at some level Skiba is, suicide seems like a way out. However, in While You're Waiting he tells the girl he hates her because she wants to commit suicide, to an effect. So.
