| The Notwist – One Step Inside Doesn't Mean You Understand Lyrics

I think it's about himself and his friends being diffrent, and the person it's about wants to 'walk with them'. And because that person can't, he or she calls them freaks. On which the singer replies that he or she's the freak, not them. |

Too bad I missed that concert, The Notwist makes very relaxed and deep music, maybe somewhat like The Postal Service, but way more relaxed.
This song is the best of Neon Golden I reckon. |

I totally agree with b1nary, your explanation seems closest to John Crosby's original meaning.
Of cours we'll never know the true meaning of the song, but then again, it was meant to fit your own interpretation. |

An incredible song, Symphony X is definatly underrated.
I believe the song is about a person that tries to find the awnsers of life itself. |

Personally it's about you learning the truth about things, and it pains you so much that you'd wish you never saw it. |

The song is about John's father, but he wouldn't comment it any further.
He wanted fans and listeners to interpret it in their own world. |

I figured out what's being chanted in the background, if you listen closely you hear:
'Tell us how many dead men, god, tell us how many.' |

I think indeed that this is not about the obvious.
Actually, I think it is not even about a woman. I think when he says Sacred/Dirty/Killing hole he means Heaven, and with 'you' God.
The muttering in the background is god, and the other voices are men that have died.
