What is this song off of?!
I've never heard it before, and these lyrics sound fucking amazing. |

I think I somewhat agree with Gazeff - it's silly to try and bog down the actual sort of events that Joanna is writing about; what's more important is to understand the emotions that she's writing about.
For ex., el castaneda, you said that "I have read the right books, to interpret your looks" could refer to her reading a cosmo magazine? Yikes, I sure hope that's not what she meant. What I think she could be referring to is that feeling that she is well read in some areas of life; she has read all of the books that allow for yourself to understand things better, but they haven't helped her at all; she can't apply them to her real life. They are simply books, only words. (much like these lyrics are only words and that we shouldn't apply them to specific types of situations".
anyway, that whole line reminds me of another song called "Book Smart, Street Stupid" by Sarah Slean. She's a canadian artist, quite talented; check her out if you haven't heard the song.
Did any of this make sense? I'm quite tired.
Ps. I love this song; it's my favourite on the album. |

This song was originally meant to be called "Mariah Carey and the Arthur Doyle Hand Cream" -which could probably be gathered from the listing of a song by the same name with the same lyrics a little bit below this one - but they had to change the name for legal reasons. |

Actually, I'm reading his boigraphy "Shakey" right now, and he says quite clearly that the song is about a town that he lived in called "Omemee". It was a tiny town with a population of about 200, and it was here that Neil contracted Polio when he was about 5 or 6.
Neil moved around quite a bit as a child, all over ontario and manitoba, so this song has probably been attributed to lots of other towns before, heh. |

I had a dream this morning about this song. A woman drove by me playing it in her car and i started to run and sing with it, and I eventually started to float. It was amazing. Anyway.
It was so great seeing Kim sing the background vocals for this song. Her voice was so powerful and she was putting so much into it that you could see all this spit flying into the air from the back of her throat and reflecting all the stage lights. It was holy.
I got Kim's pick at the end of the show. On one side it says "Kim Deal" and on the other is a "P" in the font that's used on the cover of Trompe Le Monde. I am definitely framing it. |

I agree that this song is great seeing live. Joey's guitar playing is insane. |

Frank was wearing eyeliner when I saw him on the 24th. Best night of my life. Words can't even begin to describe it. I am a changed person; no joke.
They didn't play this song, but that's ok.
I love the "you know when you grope for luna" part as well, and I thought the same thing about it as caitsith01 up there ^^. I love how the music sort of stops when he says it, too, making it sound somewhat awkward, which I think adds to the message of how, as cait puts it, "our attempts to write...[are] always relatively clumsy compared to the reality". Not sure if that was intentional, that's just what I get out of it. |

Yeah, I agree with plosion and doobey. Minus the home run thing, I always thought the rest of it sounded pretty sarcastic anyway, and the home run portion confirms that suspicion. The whistling definitely adds a feeling of lust to it. Great song. Great album. Great band. I'll be seeing them in 'xactly 6 months; nov. 24th. sweet jesus. |
