This song tickles the shit out of my fancy. I developed a liking to MGMT just tonight, but this song is the most amazing out of what I have (just the Time to Pretend EP) |

It's a fantastic song, but I really DO think the whole point is that rhubarb pie kicks ass and everyone just needs a bit of pie to be happy... YAY! |

"We'll develop muscles
From cracking coconuts
Let our clothing drop off
Feel each other's butts"
Wow, there is NO denial that Stephin Merritt's gay here |

Yeah, it sounds like it's about two boys who grew up together and were pretty much best friends, and as they got older, their relationship became more of a romantic one, where they got away from it all and drank together, but were criticized for it. That's one theory. While I was listening to it, I thought it was a boy and a girl who grew up together in a childish way, but as they grew up, so did their activities, and they drank and took ex together, but I guess that doesn't really fit in with "we got beat up just for holding hands", so the first one is probably more likely |

Couldn't agree more... I'm a straight guy, but nonetheless, it bugs me when people try to make it seem as though he's singing from a women's point of view. He's simply NOT! It's a gay love song, and an amazing one at that! He specifically says "I thought I was just the GUY for you..." And yeah, that "Love or not" part keeps coming out of my mouth at the strangest moments... |

I guess it's simply about trying your hardest and not getting anywhere, or even getting recognized. Watching others succeed and following them but not getting where they got. It's incredibly depressing, and I hate how well I can relate to it, but it's by far one of my favorite songs. |

I can't stand this song! I first heard it at camp. One of the girls had it on her mix, but they wouldn't let me listen to it on a stereo in their bunk because it made their whole bunk cry! It's SO SAD! :'( |

The lyrics ARE a mess, but one of your corrections is wrong. It's supposed to be "Remember the place that you make sure you wake and help save your generation" |

I think the "Are the memories too hard to take* Rape is a word with a face" part is about abuse that the friend has taken like rape and stuff. I had trouble interpreting that. |

There are obviously many typos in these lyrics, so before i start, i'd like to say that where it says "rand in the sink" i think it's supposed to be "red in the sink." Red being a synonym for blood. As BD007h said, it's about a friend wanting to commit suicide and this guy is trying to stop her (at least I think it's a her). He's recalling memories to make her change her mind and when he says "You know we don't want you to go" he's backing up his argument by telling her that he's not the only one who wants her to live. And when he says "Remember the place that you make sure you wake*And help save your generation" he's telling her what she has to look forward to (kids and stuff). Great song! I always keep this on REPEAT on my iPod. |

When my pet rat, Jabberwok died, I'd listen to this song. It's really powerful and one of my favorite songs even though it kills me to remember that day. The part "if you were with me tonight i'd sing to you just one more time a song for a heart so big god wouldn't let it live " always gets to me and I just break out in tears, but this song rules! |
