| Tori Amos – I Can't See New York Lyrics

Ha, yet again I took something entirely different from this. I thought the whole song used the imagery of an airplane to describe the experience of drug addiction. She refers to "the other side" alot: she's looking for a signal there, there's a man waiting for her there, New York is there. But she's caught in the "white cloud" of cyrstal meth, crashing and unable to right herself. At the end "the other side" may refer to death -- she left this ambiguous purposely I think. The drug addiction thing would also explain her somewhat scattered narration (no complete sentences, etc.) |

I kind of took something different from it --
I think she's talking about a man who's had a sad past, lost his innocence, etc (back where your boys were left behind). Now he feels trapped in the life that he has, where he doesn't love his wife but he is so jaded that he doesn't really believe in happiness anymore. He clothes even his happiness in sorrow because he knows it will disappoint ("when she cries"). He just continues on his life, perhaps travelling alot ("by boat, by tram, by autobus") superficially trying to escape his life while not doing anything to change it for fear that he will face more disappointment ("protecting us...from the hawks that have stolen the bird from the sky")
Sorry so long :) |

| Something Corporate – She Paints Me Blue Lyrics

What's the deal with the blue and yellow? This song means alot to me because my boyfriend used it to tell me how he feels when we first starting dating...so it really bothers me that after all this time i've spent listening to the song, i still can't figure out what the central metaphor in it means? Yellow relying on blue? Painting someone blue? ::Confused:: |
