no i absolutely don't see it as a rape... goodness. i see it as a guy who is terribly in love with a girl who really doesn't know. he's nervous and it's the summer time and he's saying "we're all the same age here" so no one has to act more mature than anyone else. her lips pout and twist and he dies trying to keep himself from kissing her. that's beautiful!! maybe she has a boyfriend and he can't do anything. i would imagine that makes sense as to why he would be going straight to hell.. maybe the boyfriend is even a friend of his. but at the same time i think they're very good friends, only he has deeper more elaborate feelings for her than he has told. |

okay, i believe res ipsa, you are the closest. i've recently become a huge fan of the postal service, already being a fan of death cab for cutie (the lead singer's other band) this is just a side project. If you listen to songs like "complany calls epilogue" it talks about this girl he messed up with, and she's getting married. it's one of the most heartbreaking songs i've ever heard... but anyway, i'm pretty sure that this guy is still in love with this girl, and in this song i think it's him coming to visit her with her new husband and new friends in her new town. "the stranger with the doorkey" i would imagine would be her husband, since he has a doorkey. and he has to explain that "i'm just visiting" and basically have to wear a badge to do so. i woul dimagine the keeping dry part is to keep himself sober from al the depression. everyone should read lyrics from other songs such as "title track" and "company calls epilogue" by death cab for cutie, it may do some more explaining and really give you a deeper connection. |
