ahhhh man... anybody ever read about out of body experiences? this song fits totally with that concept... if you don't know people sometimes leave there physical body with their "spirit" body. there is a thing called a silver chord that attaches the spirit body with the physical body (whitest lace of light). Sometimes these kinda of experiences can saturate (imbrue) people's lives with a new sence of hope and meaning.. also sinking ground- in obe time, distance, and solidity dont matter and people can walk through walls or "sink" into the ground. very interesting stuff.. |

negatyve and airstrike i wish more people thought like you. And damn, do I hate the term tree huggers...
We didn't have to go to war with Iraq... we should have went for the actual people that attacked us in AFGHANISTAN... but hey war makes people like dick cheney and hailburten (who he had large stock options with) make millions of dollars and also The Carlyle Group which Mr Bush is a huge part of... Also note how the oil fields were the first thing occupied by the troops... Sounds like money money money to me... It's sad how greed, anger, vengence, and ignorance can blind so many people... There is so much more in this world... so much more. |

| AFI – Weathered Tome Lyrics

Actually slpaulson Afi got it screwed up on their cd... Anyways a tome is a book (possibly one in a number of volumes). I find that this expecially a hard song to assign a meaning to also.
I think that the person in this song is returning to a place in time or people he knew in time and keeps reminising what went on. Passed through wet eyes means that he didnt accept what was presented to him because he was crying or in other words a state of depression or sadness that altered his judgements. I think that this song is relating to a "book" or period out of someones life where they messed up and wanted so much to go back and change what happened because they went down the wrong path. And that path led them to loose everything he/she had or loose everything relating in their life (or their life itself). We all have times like this is our lives but we must realize that it helps us to grow and develope and obsessing over the past is not the way to deal with things. All in all this is a great afi song. Hopefully I've helped. |

Hey Immortal just because he wrote in another song that it was his first love song doesnt mean that it actually is. The line is from smile and he talks about hating humanity and would like to destroy the world and he would then (after everyones gone) write a love song about how he actually feels compassion for the world without human beings... |

I also agree with the movie meaning. When I think of this song though I think of someone watching an old movie projector and seeing a loved one in the movie but they are gone now. And also I think that the person that was watching the movie wished he could be in the movie with that other person but never was (hence never began). Great song. |

| AFI – Silver And Cold Lyrics

Notice that this song starts off with the sound of a thunder storm. Rain is the epitome of gloom but if you think about it, it brings goodness to the earth and makes things grow. I think this song resembles a plot similar to that.
The first line talks about a character who started out as a good person (came here by day) and gradually throughout life became "dark" and a figure that the world would despise. He then found another person who was also to say a "sinner" or darker minded and he revels in this. He finds the darker way of living to be the way he would like to live his life and would also like to share it with this significant other.
The color silver in the wiccan religion (which I think Davey has roots in) is a color that means to remove all negative forces from so when he says silver and silient I think he means everything seems right to him and the cold also represents the way he likes to live. Cold could also represent death (or darkness like before). "You in somber resplendance" means you in dark gloomy brilliance, which shows how much he loves this person.
Now the chorus I think shows that he knows he is going to have to pay for living his sinister and dark life. And he is pleeing to the higher power to take the sins of his lover and put them all on his shoulders so she doesn't have to suffer the consequenses (or mabey go to hell). So he wants to give up his life for hers so that she may inturn live. As the rapturous voice escapes I think it is his voice and he is screaming with joy because he is being allowed to take the weight of her sins. But at the same time his is scared to death because he knows what he has to do (which is die or go to hell) for this person. A really deep and meaningful chorus...
"Light, Like the flutter of wings", means the higher power that is oposing him and the saying " like the flutter of wings" I think refers to hope (noah's dove mabey?). So he sees that there is hope and pity after all in the "good" side as he is letting Davey take the pain for his lover. Then the hollow voice I think would be his significant other screaming at him to not die and give up all for her. But since it is hollow and is "longing to sing" he inturn isn't listening to her plees. When he paints her in silver he is covering up all her negativeness from her life (because silver represents taking negativeness away again) which is the "no turning back point". He then "wraps her in cold" which I think is saying that he is still cold and evil and is hugging his loved one one last time before he "sinks" or is banished to hell or to death.
I also think that the interlude should be "throes" because he is saying that it is so hard to live a good life. And throes are sharp pain spasums and he can't take is so he is "cold" or dead and evil to the world because of the way it is. Then falling asleep is notorious for death in literature. And he askes her to turn because he doesn't want her to see the pain he has to go though. Then everything seeps into him and kills him for her...
This is an amazing song and (I think) has a great meaning behind it. Quite sad to say the least but it is still "somber and resplendant" :). If it means something completely different to you that's great to. Thats the beauty of afi because their lyrics can be interpreted in so many ways and is complete brilliance.
I hope I've helped... |

| AFI – Sacrifice Theory Lyrics

Im not a huge religious buff but I have a feeling that this is about the crucifixion of christ. Its all in relation to how he gave his life for the masses of "lost" sinners and sacraficed himself. The title sacrafice theroy is probably reminicent of Davey's views on Jesus's actual decision to do this. And untill his heart is crystal clear also means he gave everything he had. So it could also basically be about someone giving up all they have for someone else. Many Afi songs could be related to religious beliefs and I don't mean to push religion on anyone (I personally hate it when people do this. It just makes sense for this to be the explination.) But then again its meant to be your own picture painted in your mind and thats the way he wants it. |

I think this song is about a higher power and questioning who or what he is. It was genius to put the poem in also in whispers because a lot of the song and the title is talking about a place on earth that is so far north that it in daylight half the year and darnkess the next. I just think he might be amazed by how a higher being could do something so complicated as life and being. And again I may be wrong. Literaly genius though. |

| AFI – A Story At Three Lyrics

This song is about death. Not death only but about going to a hell or mabey heaven if there is such things. If you think about it everything in our lives has three cycles... Death is the third cycle of life (birth, life, death) . So the title could be explained that way. Sleep in many forms of literature represents death and when hes tired he "sleeps" and realizes that hes somewhere else and theres someone there... Also he sees sparkles in his eyes and cant believe it (heaven possibly). Then the chorus "wakeful, wry, and watchful, awaiting deathless ones means probably demons or a means of hell because wry means a variant of the right or proper way of things (hell). So there waiting for him I'm guessing. Also elegys and requiem are songs or poems made for people that have passed on and he can hear them sing it so it means he is elsewhere than this world if he is dead. I personally think this is a brilliant work of art might you say and afi is one of the greatest bands ever. Any interpretations of this could help you and thats whats so great about it. I just think this is the deeper meaning of the song. Hopefully I've helped.. |
